‘Fill the Helmet’ for Winton firefighters
The Winton Volunteer Fire Department’s “Fill the Helmet” is Saturday. Volunteers with the department will be at Winton Way and Santa Fe Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All money raised will be used for equipment and community outreach events. Christian singer, songwriter
Doug Hallock, a Christian songwriter, singer and musician, will perform a free concert at Winton First Baptist Church, 7264 Myrtle Ave., Winton, at 7 p.m. Monday. He tells of his struggle with heroin addiction, suicidal and homicidal tendencies, before finding relief through Christian recovery ministries. For more information, call 358-6975.
Golf tournament
The Mexican American Golf Association, Merced chapter, will hold its tournament March 22 at the Pheasant Run Golf Course in Chowchilla. The event begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. There are optional contests, including closest to the pin and most accurate drive. Raffle tickets for various prizes will be available for purchase. The cost is $65 per person and covers green fees as well as cart rental. Participants will also receive a gift bag. Proceeds from the event support high school golf programs. Kindergarten Roundup
St. Paul Lutheran School, 2916 N. McKee Road in Merced is holding a Kindergarten Roundup in its kindergarten classroom at 1:30p.m. Sunday. The event allows families to review curriculum information, find out about enrollment procedures, the kindergarten readiness assessment and provides other parental information. Registration is open to the public. St. Paul Lutheran School provides an opportunity for children to be educated in a loving Christian atmosphere. The elementary curriculum exceeds the requirements established by the state. It includes core skills and knowledge, moral and Christian living, physical education and time for creative arts. Native Daughters trip
The Native Daughters of the Golden West, Veritas Parlor No. 75, is hosting its semi-annual Black Oak Casino bus trip on March 21. Net proceeds benefit our local scholarship fund. Only one pickup location for this trip: 8:15 a.m. at the Walmart parking lot on Olive Avenue in Merced. Cost is $25 per person.
