Social Dance

The city of Merced will host an East Coast Swing dance lesson, followed by a Social Dance from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. Cost is $8 and door prizes and refreshments will be available. For more information, call (209) 723-0839.

Tea Party meeting

The Merced-Atwater Tea Party regular monthly meeting will be held Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Atwater Memorial Building, 5th Street and Broadway, Atwater. The program for the evening will be speakers discussing the drought and water issues in Merced County. The meeting is open to the public.

Sierra Club presentation

The Merced Sierra Club will host Allen and Sandra Kratzer, who will present “Touring the Adriatic Sea.” The public is invited to the presentation at 7 p.m. Thursday at 7 p.m., at Merced United Methodist Church, 899 Yosemite Parkway. Park in the lot on Cyprus Avenue and enter there.

First meeting on Merced districts

Merced’s districting advisory committee will hold its first meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at City Hall , 678 W. 18th St. The committee is made up of seven residents who will draw up maps of proposed City Council districts. At the meeting, a consultant hired by the city will be on hand to explain the process, how the boundaries will be drawn and how the public can participate. Alzheimer’s prevention

Covenant Village of Turlock will host an educational seminar led by geriatric neurologist and dementia specialist Dr. Marwan Sabbagh. He’ll present “Cooking for Alzheimer’s Prevention” at 1 p.m. Friday. Food can be an effective weapon against Alzheimer’s disease, says Sabbagh. During his presentation, he will share helpful cooking tips and easy-to-follow recipes that are healthy, preventive and delicious. Covenant Village of Turlock is at 2125 N. Olive Ave., Turlock. Native Daughters trip

The Native Daughters of the Golden West, Veritas Parlor No. 75, is hosting its semi-annual Black Oak Casino bus trip on Saturday. Net proceeds benefit the local scholarship fund. Only one pickup location for this trip: 8:15 a.m. at the Walmart parking lot on Olive Avenue in Merced. Cost is $25 per person. Castle Family Health Centers

Castle Family Health Centers will hold its eighth annual Day of Service from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bloss Clinic, 1251 Grove Ave., Atwater, near Ralston Park. There will be free health screenings for adults and children. Adults will be screened for diabetes, blood pressure and vision issues, and breast exams will be performed. Children will receive vision and hearing screenings. There will be free lunches, free raffles and activities for children. For more information, call (209) 381-2000, ext. 7210.
