Social dance
The city of Merced is hosting an East Coast swing dance lesson, followed by a social dance from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. Cost is $8. Door prizes and refreshments will be available. For more information, call (209) 723-0839.
Native Daughters trip
The Native Daughters of the Golden West, Veritas Parlor No. 75, is hosting its semi-annual Black Oak Casino bus trip on Saturday. Net proceeds benefit the local scholarship fund. Only one pickup location for this trip: 8:15 a.m. at the Walmart parking lot on Olive Avenue in Merced. Cost is $25 per person. Free health screenings
Castle Family Health Centers is holding its eighth annual Day of Service from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bloss Clinic, 1251 Grove Ave., Atwater, near Ralston Park. There will be free health screenings for adults and children. Adults will be screened for diabetes, blood pressure and vision trouble, and breast exams will be performed. Children will receive vision and hearing screenings. There will be free lunches, free raffles and activities for children. For more information, call (209) 381-2000, ext. 7210.
Elks pancake breakfast
Merced Elks is holding its monthly pancake breakfast Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Merced Elks Lodge, 1910 M. St. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, coffee and orange juice. Donations of $6 for adults and $3 for kids is requested. Blood Mary’s and screwdrivers available. Cancer support
Cancer support group sessions are held every last Wednesday of the month at Mercy UC Davis Cancer Center, 3850 G Street in Merced. The group meets from 4 to 5:30 p.m. No cost or registration required. Family, friends and caregivers of cancer patients are welcome.
‘Dancing for Birth’
Merced College Community Services offers “Dancing for Birth” classes Mondays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Merced College in Gym 4. The price is $25 for the next four-week session beginning March 23. To register go to www.mercedcommunityservices.com or call (209) 384-6224.
Income tax help
In partnership with the Internal Revenue Service, the United Way of Merced County will prepare tax returns for free for households that make less than $51,000. Help is available from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturdays through April 10 at the office on 658 W. Main St., Merced, the Salvation Army office in Los Banos and Lifeline Community Center in Winton.
