College plant sale

Merced College will hold its annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at its greenhouses. There will be tomatoes, peppers, vegetables, herbs, perennials, succulents, fruit and shade trees, and much more. Signs will lead visitors to the area off M Street. Call (209) 631-2026.

Gospel music concert

Julie Eichelberger presents another evening of gospel music as part of the Julie-N-Friends gospel concert series. This performance takes place at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Christian Life Center, 650 E. Olive Ave., Merced. Admission is free. Performers includes a “quartet of trios”: Solid Ground from Sacramento, The Cornells and The Roberts, both from Bakersfield, and the host group, Bridge of Grace from Merced. Old-time barn dance

A barn dance featuring live music from the Home Stilled String Band, with mandolins, fiddles and more, as well dance caller Nick Cuccia, is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion Hall, 939 W. Main St., Merced. Veterans will provide a no-host bar. Admission is free. Merced College and UC Merced students are encouraged to attend.

Race to Kiddieland Train

The second annual “Race to The Kiddieland Train” will be Saturday at Applegate Park in Merced. There will be a 2-mile walk/run, 5-mile run and 1-mile kid’s fun run. The kid’s fun run starts at 8:30 a.m., with the other events set to start at 9 a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at Applegate Park. The entry fee is $15 per person and includes a T-shirt. The 2-mile and 5-mile events will follow the Bear Creek bike trail. For more information, call (209) 777-0953.

Merced SPCA Easter Bunny event

Merced SPCA will hold its annual Easter Bunny event at the Merced Wal-Mart from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 4. Bring your children or animals to take pictures with the Easter Bunny. Merced SPCA will also hold its annual election night at 7 p.m. April 6 at the Merced First Baptist Church, 500 Buena Vista Drive.

Sunrise Toastmasters

Sunrise Toastmasters Chapter 4333 has moved its meetings to Paul’s Place Restaurant and Bakery, 2991 G. St. in Merced. Meetings are from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. on Mondays. For more information, call (209) 384-7128 or (209) 722-3975.

Livingston Community Workshop

The city of Livingston is hosting a community workshop to update residents on the operation of its public water system, and federal and state drinking water requirements. The workshop will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the City Council chambers, 1416 C St. in Livingston. For more information, call (209) 394-8041.

New Beginnings Merced

New Beginnings Merced is a nonprofit dedicated to saving shelter animals and finding them new homes. The group needs volunteers, especially those who can care for kittens or dogs and their puppies for a short time. Help with photographing shelter animals is needed, as are people who can transport them to rescue organizations, for which no personal vehicles are needed. Call (209) 769-2122.
