CASA annual fundraiser
Court Appointed Special Advocates’ annual fundraiser, “The CASA Cup: A Night at the Races,” will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on April 18 at the Merced County Fairgrounds in Merced. This will be an evening with fabulous food and “authentic” horse racing. Tickets are $75, and table sponsorships are available. Merced Skimmer Aquatics
Merced Skimmers Aquatics is having its spring sign-up event from through Friday. Information on the club’s programs will be available at the Merced College Pool from 6 to 7:30 p.m. any night of the week. The Skimmers offer year-round swimming and water polo to athletes from the ages 6 to 18 at many different skill levels. Good Friday service
Le Grand United Methodist Church is hosting a Good Friday service at 6 p.m. Friday in the church sanctuary. The community is invited to participate. The passion narrative will be read from the Gospel of John. The church is at 3801 Washington St. at the southwest corner of Adams Street in Le Grand.
St. Matthew Baptist Church
St. Matthew Baptist Church, 1057 N St. in Merced, is hosting an evening of original material to help present the gospel of Jesus to the public. It is called “Take Me to the King: A Night of Performing Arts.” Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance will begin around 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Retired Teachers Association
The Merced/Mariposa California Retired Teachers Association will host a tour of the Hilmar Cheese factory and Ceres Classic Wine Vinegar plant on May 4. A limited number of seats on the bus are available, and the reservation deadline is April 19 (no refunds after that). The cost is $10 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Participants will meet at Smart and Final at 9:30 a.m. The bus will leave at 9:45 a.m. Lunch at Hilmar Cheese is included.
