St. Matthew Baptist Church
St. Matthew Baptist Church, 1057 N St., in Merced, is hosting an evening of original material to help present the gospel of Jesus to the public on Good Friday. It is called “Take Me to the King – A Night of Performing Arts.” Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Friday and the performance will begin around 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Easter egg hunt
The 25th annual Kiwanis Club of Greater Merced’s Easter Egg Hunt at Applegate Park will be Saturday. All children through the age of 10 are invited. Toddlers, age 4 or younger, will hunt eggs at 10 a.m. on the park’s tennis court. Children ages 5 to 7 will hunt for eggs in Area 1 next to the Tennis Court at 10:15 a.m., and children ages 8 to 10 will hunt for eggs in Area 2, next to the Skate Park, also at 10:15 a.m. Candy-filled plastic eggs will be used for the event, with some of them containing receipts for special prizes. The Merced, Golden Valley and Livingston Key Club members assisted in preparations for the event by helping fill some 3,000 plastic Easter Eggs with candy and prizes. Kiwanis Kiddieland will open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call (209) 777-0953.
‘Time to Fly’ Kite Festival
The Knights of Columbus will present the fourth annual “Time to Fly” Kite Festival. The event is free and the first 500 kids get a free kite. The festival will kick off “The Week of The Young Child” and will start with the landing of the Merced County sheriff’s Huey helicopter. The festival will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 12 at Livingston Middle School, 101 F St. in Livingston. For more information, call Julio Valadez at (209) 277-1402.
Treasure Trove
American Legion Auxiliary will be hosting the Treasure Trove rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 11 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 939 W. Main St. All proceeds are used to assist local veterans.
Golf tourney for Castle
Castle Air Museum plans its fourth annual golf tournament on April 18 at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course, 5250 Green Sands Ave. in Atwater. Registration is that morning at 11:30 a.m. for the event that starts at 1 p.m. Lunch is included in the tournament ticket price of $80. The museum is also looking for sponsors for the tourney. Call for scholarship applications
The Virginia Smith Trust is offering scholarships, which are administered by the Merced County Office of Education, to graduates of a high school in Merced who are attending or applying to attend a California college.
