Atwater High School’s Homecoming Tonight
Atwater High School’s Homecoming festivities will be held today. The Homecoming Parade starts at 3:30 p.m. by Foster Freeze in Atwater. The Varsity football game will start at 7 p.m.. The Falcons will take on Beyer High School of Modesto. The Homecoming court and king and queen will be announced at halftime of the varsity game. There will also be a fireworks show during halftime.
Comic convention
The California Republic Comic Con Show is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdayat the Merced County Fairgrounds, 900 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. All ages are welcome. Pre-sale tickets cost $10 for anyone 13 or older, $5 for children 5 to 12 and children under 5 get in free. Prices go up at the door. Tickets available online at www.californiarepubliccomiccon.com.
Quilt Show
Merced Quilters Guild will host a new version of its bi-annual quilt show “Quilts on Forist Lane” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Quilts will be on display in several yards on Forist. Tickets will be available at the event for $10.
70th anniversary
Club Mercedes will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a dinner-dance on Saturday at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. The club was chartered in 1947. Entry is $30 per person. Music by Force ‘Em from Fresno. For ticket information, call the club at 209-383-9906.
Benefit for Merced County golf teams
The Mexican American Golf Association will host its annual golf tournament at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course on Sept. 17 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The cost is $65 and includes green fees, cart, gift bag and breakfast burrito from La Nita’s. There will also be an optional closest to the pin contest on all par 3 holes, and most accurate drive for an added $5. Raffle tickets will be sold for some great prizes. Stephan Gray Memorial Golf Tournament
The annual Stephan Gray Memorial Fund/Merced Police Officers Association Golf Tournament tees off at 8 a.m. Sept. 23 at the Rancho Del Rey Golf Club, 5250 Green Sands Ave. in Atwater. The cost is $100 per person. For more information, call 209-358-7131.
Mariposa Master Gardeners Work Shop
The Mariposa Master Gardeners will host a “Native Plants and Care” public workshop to benefit Mariposa homeowners from 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 4 at the Board of Supervisors Chambers, 5100 Bullion S., Mariposa.
