Violette Film Festival
The Violette Films will host The Violette Film Festival at The Merced Fair Grounds todayalong side the California Republic Comic Con from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event benefits local and international filmmakers and is the largest film festival in Merced County. Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge in Los Banos
All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2017 Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge in Los Banos. The competition will be held from 9 a.m. to noon today at Vineyard Basin B Park, 640 Vineyards Drive in Los Banos. Winners at the local level are eligible to advance to District, Chapter and State Finals. The Soccer Challenge location is next to the fields being used for the Los Banos Parks and Recreation Soccer Clinic. All boys and girls 9 to 14-years-old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event. Participants are required to furnish written parental consent. Entry forms are available at the Los Banos Community Center and on the day of the event.
Comic convention
The California Republic Comic Con Show is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Merced County Fairgrounds, 900 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. All ages are welcome. Pre-sale tickets cost $10 for anyone 13 or older, $5 for children 5 to 12 and children under 5 get in free. Prices go up at the door. Tickets available online at www.californiarepubliccomiccon.com.
70th anniversary
Club Mercedes will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a dinner-dance today at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. The club was chartered in 1947. Entry is $30 per person. Music by Force ‘Em from Fresno. For ticket information, call the club at 209-383-9906.
Fall Prevention Resource Fair
The Merced County Area Agency on Aging will host a Fall Prevention Resource Fair to benefit people aged 60 years old or greater from 1 to 3 p.m., Sept. 22. For more information, call 209-385-7550.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month
The Valley Crisis Center will host Domestic Violence Awareness Month marches at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at Courthouse Park, 21st and N streets, in Merced and 5:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at Pacheco Park, Highway 152 and Seventh Street, in Los Banos. For more information, call 209-725-7900.
