Club Mercedes enchilada sale

Club Mercedes will have its annual enchilada sale April 18 at Club Mercedes Hall, 569 W. Ninth St. in Merced. Enchiladas will be made with ground beef and corn or flour tortillas and sold by the dozen. Rice and beans will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for as long as they last for $5 per container. The sale is take-out only and advance orders are requested. Orders can be picked up from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. For tickets, call (209) 383-9906. The proceeds for this event will benefit the club’s three Merced Youth Baseball teams and its CSU Stanislaus Endowment Fund.

Merced-Atwater Tea Party

The Merced-Atwater Tea Party regular monthly meeting will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 16 at the Atwater Memorial Building, Fifth Street and Broadway in Atwater. The speaker will be Tom Vaillancourt, a retired small-business owner, who will address the tax aspects of the Affordable Care Act. His talk will be followed by a question-and-answer period. The meeting is open to the public.

Gardening seminar on pollination

Merced Gardens & Nursery is hosting a free seminar on Saturday at 11 a.m. on “How to Attract Pollinators to Your Garden.” Topics will include identifying pollinators, plant selection, plant location, “native” pollinators and more. Presented by UC Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners program, the seminar is free. Reservations are recommended. For more information, call (209) 384-0513.

MS Challengers presentation

MS Challengers, a self-help group sponsored by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, will meet on Saturday at the First Baptist Church, 500 Buena Vista Drive, Merced. The presentation will be on “Managing Changes in Progressive MS.” The meeting is from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There are no fees and registration isn’t required. This group is open to all individuals with multiple sclerosis and their families and friends. For more information, call (209) 631-7279. Filipino group plans picnic

The 16th annual picnic sponsored by the Central Valley Filipino American National Historical Society will be held April 18 at Veterans Cove, Yosemite Lake, Merced. Lunch begins at noon, followed by entertainment and door prizes. Purchase tickets at the event: $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12 – kids 5 and under get in free. Merced Sierra Club

John Sweigard, the general manager of Merced Irrigation District, will speak to the Merced Sierra Club at 7 p.m. April 16. The public is invited to join the discussion on local and regional water issues. It will be held at Merced United Methodist Church, 899 Yosemite Parkway.
