Homeless project yard sale

Film on Filipino Americans
A showing of “Delano Manongs: Forgotten Heroes of the UFW Movement” is planned at 7 p.m. April 17 at UC Merced’s Classroom and Office Building, Room 120. Admission is free to the 30-minute documentary on the little-known Filipino farmworkers union led by Larry Itliong that instigated the 1965 grape strike and led to a merger with Mexican workers led by civil rights leader Cesar Chavez. The film’s producer and director Marissa Aroy is set to be at the 6 p.m. reception before the film. The showing is sponsored by the Pilipino American Alliance of UC Merced, Central Valley Filipino American National Historical Society and UC Merced Social Justice Department. Courthouse Museum tea
The 20th annual Tea Party in the historic courtroom at the Merced County Courthouse Museum will be Saturday from 12:30 to 4 p.m. The historic Superior Courtroom will be transformed into an elegant tearoom, and “Victorian Tea Party” is this year’s theme. There will be four seatings: 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Each seating will last 40 minutes. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $10 for children 10 years of age and younger. Three raffle prizes – two traditional tea baskets and a child’s tea basket – will also be available. Call the museum office at (209) 723-2401 and reserve seating time early.
Italian Catholic Federation
The Italian Catholic Federation is sponsoring a day at Black Oak Casino April 20. The cost is $28 a person. Each participant will receive $10 for gaming, $5 for table play and $5 toward lunch. There will be refreshments, a free raffle and bingo on the bus. The bus will depart from the parking lot across from the Merced post office at 23rd and M streets at 9 a.m. Boarding begins at 8:45 a.m. Have a driver’s license or other photo ID. The bus will depart the casino at 3:30 p.m. and return to Merced by 5 p.m. Reservations may be made by calling (209) 383-4819 or (209) 383-1808, or by emailing Natalinas@comcast.net. Checks should be made out to ICF, and mailed to 2829 Bedford Drive, Merced 94340. Deadline to hold reservations is April 15.
Relay for Life
Merced is having its Relay for Life event Saturday, April 25, at Don Odishoo Field at Merced College. Cancer survivors may register starting at 7:30 am on the 50-yard line at the Survivor’s Tent. Upon registration, participants will receive a free shirt. The survivor lap begins at 8:45 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony. The event lasts for 24 hours, ending Sunday at 9 a.m. Bring family and friends to celebrate and remember those touched by cancer.
