The Virginia Smith Trust is offering scholarships, which are administered by the Merced County Office of Education, to graduates of a high school in Merced who are attending or applying to attend a California college. Golf tourney for Castle

Castle Air Museum plans its fourth annual golf tournament Saturday at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course, 5250 Green Sands Ave. in Atwater. Registration is that morning at 11:30 a.m. The event starts at 1 p.m. Lunch is included in the tournament ticket price of $80. The museum is also looking for sponsors for the tourney. CASA annual fundraiser

Court Appointed Special Advocates’ annual fundraiser, “The CASA Cup: A Night at the Races,” will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Merced County Fairgrounds in Merced. This will be an evening with fabulous food and “authentic” horse racing. Tickets are $75 and table sponsorships are available. Film on Filipino Americans

A showing of “Delano Manongs: Forgotten Heroes of the UFW Movement” is planned at 7 p.m. Friday at UC Merced’s Classroom and Office Building Room 120. Admission is free to the 30-minute documentary on the little-known Filipino farmworkers union led by Larry Itliong that instigated the 1965 Grape Strike and led to a merger with Mexican workers led by civil rights leader Cesar Chavez. The film’s producer and director Marissa Aroy is set to be at the 6 p.m. reception before the film. The showing is sponsored by Pilipino American Alliance of UC Merced, Central Valley Filipino American National Historical Society and UC Merced Social Justice Department. Volunteers for Junior Olympics

The Kiwanis Club of Merced is seeking volunteers to help at the 71st annual Junior Olympics on April 25 at Golden Valley High School. Volunteers will also be needed on April 23-24. The club will have an informational meeting for volunteers today at the Bar B-Q Pit on G St. For more information, call (209) 756-4014.

Merced Genealogical Society

The Merced County Genealogical Society will meet in the Gracey Room, Merced County Library, 2100 O St. at 1 p.m. April 18. Vauna Kelley, the speaker for this month’s meeting, will make a presentation about researching English ancestors. The meeting is open to all. No membership is required.
