Free redwood seedlings

Big Creek Lumber is having an Arbor Day redwood tree seedling giveaway, while supplies last, on Friday at all five retail outlets, including the Atwater store at 2050 Industrial Road. Relay for Life

Merced is having its Relay for Life event Saturday at Don Odishoo Field at Merced College. Cancer survivors register at 7:30 a.m. on the 50-yard line at the Survivorship Tent. Upon registration, they will receive a free shirt. The kickoff begins at 8:45 a.m., followed by the Survivors Lap. The event lasts for 24 hours, ending Sunday at 9 a.m. Family and friends are invited to celebrate and remember those touched by cancer.

Trail ride

The Merced Horsemen’s trail ride at Pacheco State Park is scheduled for Saturday. Participants should meet at the park at 9:30 a.m., with the ride beginning at 10 a.m. There is a $5 fee per rider. For more information, call (209) 756-0620 or (209) 631-3108.

Mini-opera

The Merced County Office of Education, Arts UC Merced Presents and the Betty Scalice Foundation will present the children’s mini-opera “Who Stole B-flat?” at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lakireddy Auditorium at UC Merced. “Who Stole B-flat?” is an original story full of mystery, beauty and hilarious interactive fun. Suggested donations for the public performance are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Tickets will be available at the door on the afternoon of the performance beginning at 1:30 p.m.

NAACP drive

Merced County NAACP Branch 1047 will hold its membership drive at 6 p.m. Monday at Merced City Hall, 678 W. 18th St. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call Kenneth Roberts at (209) 761-6869.

‘Snapshots’

The National Alliance on Mental Health of Merced County is hosting a showing of “Snapshots,” award-winning videos created and produced by area high school students, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at 1137 B. St. The free event is designed to give a snapshot into the lives of those affected by mental illness. There will be also be a panel discussion. The movie setting will include popcorn, candy and beverages. For more information, call (209) 812-4058 or email sugargran@hotmail.com.
