‘Snapshots’: Showing of student videos

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Merced County will host a showing of “Snapshots,” award-winning videos created and produced by area high school students, on Wednesday at 1137 B. St., Merced. The free event is designed to give a quick look into the lives of those affected by mental illness. There will be also be a panel discussion. Atwater-Winton Lions Club dinner

The Atwater-Winton Lions Club will have its 15th annual Charity Roundup dinner on Saturday at the Atwater Community Center, 760 E. Bellevue Road, Atwater. Social hour, with a no-host bar, will begin at 6 p.m. Dinner is rib-eye steak and shrimp at 7. There will be drawings for cash prizes. All proceed go to the club’s community service projects. Menudo at Club Mercedes

Club Mercedes, a nonprofit organization, serves menudo on the last Sunday of every month at 569 W. Ninth St. in Merced. Serving time is 8 a.m. until noon or until the menudo sells out. Prices are $7 for a small bowl or $8 for a large bowl. The meal includes tortillas, condiments, coffee and pastries. Margaritas are $5. Arbor Gallery painting demonstration

Arbor Gallery will sponsor a free demonstration by John Harrell on Saturday. Harrell is a local acrylic painter and member of the gallery. His interest is painting trains, planes and things that move. Bring art supplies if you wish to paint with Harrell, or just watch him paint a marketable piece of art. The demonstration will begin at 10 a.m. and last at least two hours. Arbor Gallery is inside the Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St., Merced. For details, call the gallery at (209) 384-8338.

NAACP membership drive

Merced County NAACP Branch 1047 will hold a membership drive at 6 p.m. Monday at Merced City Hall, 678 W. 18th St. Refreshments will be served. For details, call Kenneth Roberts at (209) 761-6869.

Gaucho Diamond Club Boosters fundraiser

The Gaucho Diamond Club Boosters will host a fundraiser May 2 to support the El Capitan High School baseball program. The festivities will be held on the Pilkington baseball field at the family’s residence, 1920 Canyon Drive, Merced. Cocktails from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and catered dinner at 7. Cost is $25 per plate.
