Elks Lodge Drive-Through Dinner

The Merced Elks Lodge will have a drive-through dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. The dinner cost is $10 and includes chicken quarters, beans, salad and a roll. Fire Chief to speak at Sierra Club

Cal Fire Merced County Chief Nancy Koerperich will address the Merced Group of the Sierra Club at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Merced United Methodist Church, 899 Yosemite Parkway. She will share details of last season's firefighting efforts, clean-up and salvage operations and the fire management plans for the year ahead. The public is invited to attend. Meet with Atwater’s new interim city manger

Art de Werk, the new interim city manger in Atwater, invites the public to join him for a cup of coffee and to discuss ideas and plans for the community at 8 a.m. Thursday at Atwater City Hall, 750 Bellevue Road, Atwater.

Merced Art Exhibit, Reception

Merced College Art Gallery will present an exhibition of mixed media sculpture by artists Sandra Beard and Janice Nakashima at the Theater Building of the Merced College Art Galley on M Street in Merced. This exhibition opens Wednesday and continues until Feb. 8. A reception for the artists runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24. The exhibition and reception are free to the public.

Docent training

The Merced County Courthouse Museum is recruiting new volunteers. Docents serve as tour guides for visitors to the Courthouse Museum and help to educate the public about Merced County history. The next annual docent training session is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Courthouse Museum, 21st and N streets. Coffee and breakfast rolls will be provided. Brazilian Jazz Concert

The Los Banos Arts Council will host Grupo Falso Baiano at 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at The Ted Falasco Arts Center, 1105 Fifth St., Los Banos. For more information, call 209-826-6132.

UC Merced Downtown Campus Center

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the UC Merced Downtown Campus Center is planned for 11 a.m. Jan. 23 at the corner of 18th and N streets in Merced. Tours of the first-floor of the building will be given. The new center is expected to bring about 300 UC Merced staff to work in the downtown area of the city.

Buhach Music Crab Fundraiser

The Buhach Colony High School Music Boosters of Atwater hosts its 13th annual crab feed from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Pavilion at the Merced County Fairgrounds, 900 Martin Luther King Jr. Way The event features the Buhach Colony Jazz Ensemble, a raffle, and a dessert auction.
