Church Women United

Church Women United in the Merced Area are hosting their annual May Friendship Day on Friday at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 1455 E. Yosemite Ave., Merced, with a potluck luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Theme is “Journey of the Caregiver” and Ami Marchini, owner of Park Merced and Mission Gardens Assisted Living, will be the guest speaker. Special guests will be recipients of Community Outreach Grants that are given annually.

‘Peter Pan’ in Atwater

Mitchell Senior Elementary’s drama department will present a 30-minute version of the Sir J.M. Barrie’s classic tale “Peter Pan” at 7 p.m. Friday in the cafeteria of the 1753 Fifth St. school. Camp Pacifica Benefit

The Lions Club Camp Pacifica Benefit Sporting Clays Tournament will take place Saturday at Rooster Ranch, 26166 Kelly Road, Hilmar. Camp Pacifica serves hearing-impaired children ages 7-15 and provides summertime camping activities. Tournament proceeds will benefit camper scholarships or fund camp repairs and maintenance. National Alliance on Mental Health

NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness, of Merced County is hosting a showing of “Snapshots,” award-winning videos created and produced by area high school students, on Wednesday at 1137 B. St., Merced. The free event is designed to give a snapshot into the lives of those affected by mental illness. There will be also be a panel discussion. Gaucho Diamond Club Boosters

The Gaucho Diamond Club Boosters will be hosting a fundraiser Saturday to support El Capitan High School’s baseball program. The festivities will be held on the Pilkington baseball field at the family’s residence, 1920 Canyon Drive, Merced. Cocktails from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and dinner served at 7:00 pm. The dinner cost is $25 per plate and is catered by Florencio’s Fine Mexican Restaurant. There will be silent, live and dessert auctions. Italian Catholic Federation

The Italian Catholic Federation’s Spring Biscotti-Bale Sale will be held at St. Patrick’s Church on Saturday and Sunday. The sale will take place after each of the masses. Cookies and biscotti will be available. Biscotti varieties will include almond, almond with anise, almond with chocolate, almond with cranberries and biscotti without almonds. Biscotti costs $7 per dozen. If you prefer to preorder, call (209)383-4819. Orders can be picked up at the parish hall from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Castle plans waffle fundraiser

Castle Air Museum plans its annual strawberry waffle brunch from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday in the museum’s banquet room, 5050 Santa Fe Drive in Atwater. The menu includes a waffle topped with strawberries and whipped cream or butter and maple syrup, as well as sausage and a drink. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children 6 or younger.
