Merced Youth Council meeting
The Merced Youth Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, in the Sam Pipes Room of City Hall, 678 W. 18th St., to discuss its mural project, field trips and other possible projects. Multiple sclerosis presentation
A free presentation on multiple sclerosis will take place on Saturday, May 9, at the Branding Iron Restaurant, 640 W. 16th St., Merced. Dr. Nighat Sarwar, a neurologist and MS specialist, will be the speaker. His presentation is titled “Beyond MS Basics.” The event is sponsored by Biogen Idec, a biotechnology firm, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Check-in for the event is from 5:30 to 6 p.m. The presentation and complimentary dinner are from 6 to 8 p.m. RSVP required and can be made by calling (866) 955-9999.
Mother’s Day craft fair
The American Legion Riders and Sons of the American Legion of Merced will be hosting their second annual Crafts and Antiques Fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 9. This is a fundraiser to assist local veterans and for the preservation of the Veterans Memorial. The event is open to the public. VFW holding building materials sale
The Livingston-Delhi Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8327, will be holding a huge building materials sale at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 9799 Stephens St., Delhi. Materials for sale include electrical, plumbing, lawn and garden, flooring, windows, bathtubs, doors and many other items. The sales takes place May 14 through May 16. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 14 and May 15, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 16. All sales are final with no warranties. Contractors welcome. Cash or checks only, no credit cards. National Day of Prayer observance
The annual observance of National Day of Prayer, first Thursday in May, for Merced will take place Thursday at Bob Hart Square from noon to 1 p.m. There also will be an evening observance at 6 p.m. at Courthouse Park. Join us as we pray for our city, state and nation. The observances are being hosted by Calvary Assembly of God, This Ain’t Your Mama’s Church and Love Inc., with about 12 pastors participating. Talk Show Toastmasters
