El Nido Patriotic Program

El Nido Elementary School welcomes the public to the school at 161 El Nido Road to enjoy an evening celebrating the U.S. military, veterans and their families on May 21 at 6:30 p.m. The El Nido Patriotic Program is open to the public. Meeting on Merced districts

The Independent Districting Advisory Committee, which will oversee the creation of six Merced City Council voting districts, is asking for residents to attend its meetings and provide input on its plans. Three first-round community meetings will be held in various locations within the city to ask for public input. The next meeting is 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at the Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St.

Senior social dance

The May Social Dance will begin at 1 p.m. May 31 at the Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. Admission is $8 per person and includes a tango lesson, which will be taught at 1:15 p.m. The open dance floor is planned from 2 to 5 p.m. with live music provided by the band Just Friends. Hunter safety and range class

The city of Merced Recreation Department will offer hunter safety and range instruction from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $15 per person and pre-registration is required. For more information, call (209) 385-6298.

Auditions set for Shakespeare in Park

Merced Shakes holds auditions for its 2015 summer Shakespeare in the Park play “Henry V” on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Playhouse Merced, 452 W. Main St., in downtown Merced. At least 15 actors and five actresses are needed. There will be cold reading of scenes. A prepared Shakespearean monologue is welcome but not mandatory. Performances will be outdoors in September. Merced High Class of 1980

Merced High School 1980 Class Reunion – 35th Anniversary will be held outdoors under the stars at the Vista Ranch Cellars, Merced, on Sept. 19, from 6 to 11 p.m. A casual event, the price is $12 per person and includes use of the venue, music and all amenities of Vista Ranch Cellars. Merced Garden Club to discuss soil

The Merced Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Merced County Fish and Game Building at Lake Yosemite Park. The topic of the lecture at this meeting is sustainable soil or composting. The meeting is open to the public.
