Free document shredding event
Travis Credit Union in partnership with Casey Moving Systems invites Merced residents and small businesses to a free document shredding on May 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Travis Credit Union’s Atwater branch, 981 Bellevue Road. Each person or small business can bring up to five boxes or bags of documents to be shredded. Information and resources on identity theft prevention will also be available.
Merced Parent Preschool
Merced Parent Preschool alumni are getting together on June 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the school at 125 E. 18th St. Anyone who has participated either as a parent or as a preschooler in the program since 1947 is welcome to attend. State legislation eliminating the funding of parenting programs at Merced Adult School is forcing the closure of the school. If you wish to attend, please contact the school at (209) 385-6453 or email jrobbins@muhsd.org so organizers can plan for the barbecue. Photos of the school would be appreciated for the memorabilia tables.
Genealogical Society meeting
The Merced County Genealogical Society will meet in the Gracey Room, Merced County Library, 2100 O St., 1 p.m. Saturday. The guest speaker will be Kathryn Marshall, director of the Lodi California Family History Center. She will share how to research information online using various programs and provide other tips for researching family histories. The meeting is open to all and no membership is required.
Team Mega Force to perform
Team Mega Force, a group of athletes who perform amazing feats of strength, share incredible testimonies and the gospel message, is scheduled to appear at Merced First Assembly of God church, 1350 Yosemite Parkway, in Merced on Sunday at 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. They have been featured on ESPN, “Ripley’s Believe It or Not,” “America’s Got Talent,” and “Steve Harvey’s Big Show.” The family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Atwater Garden Club spring tour
The Atwater Garden Club’s Spring Garden Tour is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tour will feature six gardens. Tickets are $15 per person. For ticket locations or more information, call (209) 201-2804 or (209) 777-8480.
Merced youth talent show
Save Our Youth Merced Talent Showcase, a language and performing arts event, is planned noon to 4 p.m. May 30 in the theater at El Capitan High School, 100 Farmland Ave. The show will feature storytelling, song, dance, rap and spoken word.
