Cemetery district seeks volunteers

The Merced Cemetery District is looking for volunteers to help us honor our veterans by placing a flag and a cross on the graves of our military heroes at 9 a.m. Saturday. This will be in preparation for our Memorial Day Ceremony. Meet at the main office at 1300 B St. in Merced. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. Lunch will also be provided. Last year, 71 volunteers finished the job in four hours. For more information, contact Merced Cemetery District at (209) 383-4111.

El Nido Patriotic Program

El Nido Elementary School welcomes the public to the school at 161 El Nido Road to enjoy an evening celebrating the U.S. military, veterans and their families on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The El Nido Patriotic Program is open to the public. Meeting on Merced districts

The Independent Districting Advisory Committee, which will oversee the creation of six Merced City Council voting districts, is asking for residents to attend its meetings and provide input on its plans. Three first-round community meetings will be held in various locations within the city to ask for public input. The next meeting is 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Senior Community Center, 755 15th St.

Tea Party monthly meeting

The Merced-Atwater Tea Party regular monthly meeting will be Thursday 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Atwater Memorial Building, Fifth Street and Broadway, Atwater. The speaker will be Sinhue Noriega, author of “If It’s Broken Don’t Fix It.” His presentation will focus on Common Core. There will be a question-and-answer period. This event is open to to the public.

Merced County Republican Women

The Merced County Republican Women will be hosting the president of the Boys and Girls Cub of Merced County at Monday’s meeting. Nellie McGarry has been on the board for 11 years and president for three years. The event will be held at the Branding Iron, starting at 11:30 a.m. Guests are welcome. Sober Grad volunteers

The Merced and Golden Valley Sober Grad committee are looking for volunteers to help us provide a fun and safe place for our 2015 graduating seniors. Graduation for Merced High School and Golden Valley will be June 4. Organizers need adult volunteers following the graduations to be at the joint Sober Grad festivities at Golden Valley High School. The Sober Grad event is from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Volunteers are needed for two hours, three hours or all night from 9:45 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. At least 200 volunteers are being sought.
