Christian Spiritual Day Retreat

Women’s Christian Spiritual Day Retreat is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 4 at the United Methodist Church, 899 Yosemite Parkway. All women are invited to experience a day of enlightenment and discoveries. Bring your favorite cup, mug or something similar that can be used for an exercise. Lunch is pot-luck. Merced County Stand-Down

The Merced County Veterans Employment Committee will host a Stand-Down to benefit homeless or at risk of becoming homeless veterans from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 10 at the American Legion post 83 939 W. Playhouse Merced Gala

Golf tourney

Merced's chapter of the Mexican American Golf Association will be hosting its annual Golf Tournament at Rancho Del Rey on Aug. 19. The cost is $70. Registration will be at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Proceeds will help Merced County high school golf teams. An optional closest to the pin, and most accurate drive will be available for $5.

Merced Police Citizens Police Academy

The Merced Police Department is offering a free Citizens Police Academy. Classes for the 11-week program will be held weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. starting Sept. 5 at the central police station, 611 West 22nd St., Merced. The deadline to enroll is 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24 or when the class reaches 28 participants.
