Le Grand Community Day
The 87th Le Grand Community Day will be Saturday in Le Grand. The festivities begin at 10 a.m. with a parade, followed by the Flower and Art Show, children’s games and deep-pit barbecue, all on Jefferson Street. Cooking class for kids
Learn how to cook at the Merced County and the city of Merced’s free cooking course for seventh-, eighth- and ninth-graders. Classes are 9 to 10:30 a.m. on June 16, 18, 23 and 25 at the Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. Preregistration is required and space is limited. Sign up by calling (209) 385-6298.
Cemetery District seeks volunteers
The Merced Cemetery District is looking for volunteers to help honor veterans by placing a flag and a cross on the graves of military heroes at 9 a.m. Saturday. This will be in preparation for a Memorial Day ceremony. Meet at the main office at 1300 B St. in Merced. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. Lunch will also be provided. Last year, 71 volunteers finished the job in four hours. For more information, call the Merced Cemetery District at (209) 383-4111.
Meeting on Merced districts
The Independent Districting Advisory Committee, which will oversee the creation of six Merced City Council voting districts, is asking residents to attend its meetings and provide input on its plans. Three first-round community meetings will be held in various locations within the city. The next meeting is 2 to 3:30 p.m. May 30 at Rivera Middle School, 945 Buena Vista Drive.
Veterans plan Memorial Day event
The Livingston/Delhi Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 8327 and the Ladies Auxiliary will host their annual Memorial Day ceremony at Livingston Memorial Park at Park and Main streets. The ceremony will take place on the traditional Memorial Day May 30, at 5 p.m. Immediately following the ceremony, refreshments will be served at the Veterans Memorial Building at Seventh and Peach streets. AARP Merced to award scholarships
The AARP Merced Chapter 282 monthly meeting will be Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. Scholarships will be awarded to the chapter’s 2015 Merced College recipients. After the meeting, there will be a lunch costing $3 per person. The meeting is open to the public.
