Gay charity pageant
The 3M Quad-County Pageant, a show featuring men, women and drag queens from Merced, Stanislaus, Tuolumne and Calaveras counties, begins with a dinner at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Merced Women’s Club House, 707 W. 22nd St. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Iraqi survivor
The Merced County Republican Women will host a survivor from Saddam Hussein’s regime as speaker at 11:30 a.m. June 15 at the Branding Iron. The meeting begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch served at noon. Lydia Kano, born in Baghdad, says she is one of four children who survived Saddam’s regime. With the help of her parents, she came to the U.S. in 1979 and is now an American citizen with a college degree. She will talk about the Islamic State and the genocide of Assyrian Christians. Merced College Retired Women
The Merced College Retired Women will hold its monthly luncheon at La Hacienda 2, 3355 G St. in Merced, on June 11 at 11:30 a.m. No reservations are required for the no-host luncheon. The group meets on the second Thursday of each month at La Hacienda 2. For more information, call (209) 358-5376.
