NAUS meeting at Castle Air Museum
The National Association for Uniformed Services, H. Wayne Hein Chapter 18, will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Castle Air Museum banquet room. Genealogy lecture
Barbara Washburn is the speaker this month at the Merced County Genealogical Society meeting. Washburn is a family history specialist with more than 20 years of experience. Her topic is “Finding Lost Cousins and Living Relatives.” The meeting is at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Gracey Room, Merced County Library, 2100 O St. The meeting is open to the public.
Le Grand Farmers Market
The Le Grand Certified Farmers Market will run Tuesday nights through Aug. 4 near the Pizza Factory in Le Grand, 13208 Le Grand Road. Vendors operate from 5 to 7 p.m. offering fresh fruit, vegetables, kettle corn, soaps and more. Live entertainment begins at 6 p.m., starting with Cottonwood Creek on opening night, which is next week. Market visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair for the show.
Free co-ed baseball leagues
Registration is underway for free co-ed baseball leagues for children in Merced County, ages 5 to 18. Practices began Monday, but children may sign up through June 30 at jrgiants.org. Children ages 14 to 18 play at Atwater High School and Winton Park. Participants under 14 play at Franklin or Joe Stefani elementary schools. Coaches and volunteers are needed. AARP Merced’s Monthly Meeting
The AARP Merced Chapter monthly meeting will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. After the meeting, lunch will be served for $3. The meeting is open to the public.
VFW Breakfast Fundraiser
The Livingston-Delhi VFW will host a fundraiser in Turlock from 8 to 11 a.m. June 28 at the Turlock Hometown Buffet. Tickets are available for $10 each from the VFW and auxiliary members and must be purchased prior to the event. Proceeds will go to maintain the memorial in Livingston Memorial Park and to the group’s Community Program Fund.
Merced Sun-Star business awards
The Merced Sun-Star has launched a new program aimed at recognizing the community’s best businesses and their owners. The Excellence in Business program will grant eight awards to area businesses, and one person in the community will receive the Hall of Fame award. Winners will be announced July 29 in the Sun-Star. Advocates for children
Court Appointed Special Advocates of Merced County will begin a new volunteer advocate training class June 29. The nonprofit CASA trains volunteers to provide support and advocacy for abused and neglected children in the Merced County foster care system. For more information, call CASA at (209) 722-2272.
Merced College aikido class
