Talk planned for growers
The California Institute for Rural Studies, along with local Merced partners, plans a “Listening Session and Report Back” for Merced County growers from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Merced County Farm Bureau office, 646 S. State Highway 59. Local economic development, options for expanding market opportunities and a plan of action will be discussed. The cost is $10. Country concert in Merced
Jackson Michelson, a country singer-songwriter whose tour has taken him across the nation, will perform at 8 p.m. July 11 at Vista Ranch and Cellars, 7326 E State Route 140 in Merced. Concert tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. First-come, first-served for seating. Attendees are encouraged to bring camping chairs and blankets. Livingston Recreation Youth soccer registration
The Livingston Recreation Department will be offering a recreation youth soccer league. Registration will be held 9 a.m. to noon July 11 at Livingston City Hall, 1416 C St. Registration forms can be picked up at City Hall, the Livingston Recreation Office or at www.livingstoncity.com. The season runs August through October. All games will be played Saturdays at the soccer field on Walnut Avenue. Player registration fee is $57 and includes a jersey, shorts, socks, ball and a trophy. Divisions for ages 3 to 14 years old. Coaches and sponsors are needed for all divisions. Merced College Retired Women to meet
Merced College Retired Women will hold its monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. July 9 at La Hacienda 2, El Portal Plaza, 3355 G St. No reservations are required for the no-host luncheon. The group meets the second Thursday of each month at the same location. For more information, call 209-358-5376.
Merced Senior Social Club enchilada lunch
The Merced Senior Social Club will host an enchilada lunch, catered by the BBQ Pit, at 11 a.m. July 10 during its regular meeting at 755 W. 15th St. in Merced. The cost is $5 for members. For more information, call 209-383-6057. The club’s scheduled meeting Wednesday has been canceled.
Merced library summer sale
The Friends of the Merced County Public Library is having its summer sale inside the main branch office, 2100 O St. The sale runs from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, ending in August. Participants can fill a bag with hardback books for $3. Children’s books, magazines, CDs and DVDs will be available. All proceeds go to buy new materials for the county library.
Atwater Class of 1980 reunion
Atwater High Class of 1980 will have its 35-year reunion Sept. 5 at Isabella’s Bar & Grill in Atwater. The dinner-dance party begins at 6 p.m. with no-host cocktails; dinner is at 7. Mental Health Board meetings
The Merced County Mental Health Board meets the first Tuesday of every month from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at 1137 B Street, Merced. Everyone is invited to attend.
New Beginnings Merced
New Beginnings Merced is a nonprofit dedicated to saving shelter animals and finding them new homes. The group needs volunteers, especially those who can care for kittens or dogs and their puppies for a short time. Help with photographing shelter animals is needed, as are people who can transport them to rescue organizations, for which no personal vehicles are needed. Call (209) 769-2122.
