Merced College Retired Women

Merced Senior Social Club enchilada lunch

Military appreciation day Friday at Castle Air Museum
Castle Air Museum officials will host a military appreciation event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Air Museum, 5050 Santa Fe Drive in Atwater. Four new vintage military aircraft exhibits will be dedicated the same day. Admission is free for active-duty and military veterans. A tour of the museum’s presidential aircraft will also be available for $10. The aircraft was used as Air Force 1 by Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton.
Country concert in Merced
Jackson Michelson, a country singer-songwriter whose tour has taken him across the nation, will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at Vista Ranch and Cellars, 7326 E. Highway 140. Concert tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. First come, first served for seating. Attendees are encouraged to bring camping chairs and blankets. Book sale in Los Banos
St. Alban’s Anglican Church will host a quality used-book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, 401 L St. in Los Banos. Proceeds will benefit the church’s foreign missions.
Christmas in July in Merced
Veritas Parlor 75 of the Merced Native Daughters of the Golden West will present Christmas in July from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at the United Methodist Church, 899 Yosemite Parkway. There will be handmade holiday crafts, breads, cookies, jams and jellies. A silent auction and second-time-around tables will be available. A tea luncheon is also planned for a $10 donation. Gospel music concert in Merced
Bev McCann Ministries presents an evening of gospel music at 7 p.m. July 31 at Merced Theatre, 301 W. Main St. Tickets are $15, and children 12 and under are admitted free. AARP Merced day trip planned
AARP Merced Chapter 282 is planning a day trip to Roaring Camp Railroads on Aug. 11. There will be a historic narrated excursion on a 100-year old steam train to Bear Mountain. The cost of the trip is $65 and open to the public. The train and bus will be wheelchair-accessible. Seating is limited and the deadline for reservations is Aug. 3. Scholarship fundraiser dinner in Hilmar
Livingston Community Health will host its third annual scholarship-fundraiser dinner at 5 p.m. Aug. 13 at Hilmar Cheese Co., 9001 Lander Ave., Hilmar. This year’s event will honor the 2015 scholarship recipients and feature a tri-tip dinner as well as a raffle and auction benefiting the scholarship program. Tickets are $35 apiece. Merced Sun-Star business awards
The Merced Sun-Star has launched a new program aimed at recognizing the community’s best businesses and their owners. The Excellence in Business program will grant eight awards to area businesses, and one person in the community will receive the Hall of Fame award. Winners will be announced July 29 in the Sun-Star. To nominate a business or a person, click here. The deadline to submit nominations is July 16.
