AARP Merced holds its monthly meeting

AARP Merced’s monthly meeting will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. After the meeting, lunch will be served for $3. The meeting is open to the public.

Gospel music concert in Merced

Bev McCann Ministries presents an evening of gospel music at 7 p.m. July 31 at the Merced Theatre, 301 W. Main St. Tickets are $15, and children 12 and under are admitted free. Rental space available for rummage sale in Los Banos

Applications are being accepted for the Valley Christian Center’s Community Rummage Sale next month. The sale is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Valley Christian Center parking lot at I and Seventh streets in Los Banos. Spaces can be rented for $20 and a refundable $15 cleanup deposit. La Grange Odd Fellows catfish dinner

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows in La Grange will host its eighth annual catfish dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 1 at the hall, 30018 Yosemite Blvd. Besides deep-fried catfish fillets, the menu includes cornbread, coleslaw and corn on the cob, plus coffee, iced tea or lemonade with ice cream cups for dessert, all for $12 and $6 for kids 12 and under. Summer blood drive in Merced

Local residents can make an impact in the lives of patients in need by donating blood during the BloodSource Summer Classic in Merced from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at BloodSource Merced, 382 E. Yosemite Ave. Participants will receive a commemorative Summer Classic T-shirt, MyBloodSource Rewards and Togo’s sandwiches.

Barbecue Chicken Dinner-To-Go orders

Yosemite Gateway Council of the Blind is holding its annual Barbecue Chicken Dinner-To-Go on Aug. 5. Pickup is available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 1240 D St. in Merced. Orders can be placed by emailing yosemitegatewayccb@gmail.com or leaving a message at 209-722-8118.

Summer Family Health Festival in Atwater

Castle Family Health Centers will be holding the eighth annual Summer Family Health Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 at 3605 Hospital Road in Atwater. Admission is free. The event offers free health screenings for vision, hearing, diabetes and blood pressure, as well as breast exams and dental for children. Sports physicals will be offered for $25 each. Scholarship fundraiser dinner in Hilmar

Livingston Community Health will host its third annual scholarship-fundraiser dinner at 5 p.m. Aug. 13 at Hilmar Cheese Co., 9001 Lander Ave. This year’s event will honor the 2015 scholarship recipients and feature a tri-tip dinner as well as a raffle and auction benefiting the scholarship program. 25th Bill Kirby Western barbecue and auction

Merced County Historical Society will host its 25th annual old-time Western barbecue in memory of Bill Kirby at Lake Yosemite on Sept. 8. The event will feature live and silent auctions for dinners, vacation getaways, antique items, gourmet food and artwork. Tickets cost $50 and are on sale in the Courthouse Museum gift shop. Proceeds benefit museum programs and the Bill and Tom Kirby Agricultural Scholarship at Merced College. For more information, call the museum office at 209-723-2401.
