Prekindergarten registration underway at Bear Country Preschool

Registration for prekindergarten and transitional kindergarten at Bear Country Preschool began Wednesday and continues until the end of the month. Parents will have the chance to meet teachers and review the curriculum at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Bear Country Preschool, 2115 Wardrobe Ave. in Merced. Classes being Aug. 17. Blood drive in Merced

Local residents can make an impact in the lives of patients in need by donating blood during the BloodSource Summer Classic in Merced from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday at BloodSource Merced, 382 E. Yosemite Ave. Participants will receive a commemorative Summer Classic T-shirt, MyBloodSource Rewards and Togo’s sandwiches.

Merced pianist Doug Rowan in concert

Merced native Douglas Rowan will host a free solo piano recital at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Lakireddy Auditorium at UC Merced. Rowan, a 2014 Golden Valley High School graduate, attends Brigham Young University-Idaho as a piano performance major. Douglas also is attending the Chautauqua Institution in New York. The recital will be free. Donations will be accepted and will benefit the Golden Valley Cardinal Regime and jazz bands.

Scholarship fundraiser dinner in Hilmar

Livingston Community Health will host its third annual scholarship-fundraiser dinner at 5 p.m. Thursday at Hilmar Cheese Company, 9001 Lander Ave. This year’s event will honor the 2015 scholarship recipients and feature a tri-tip dinner as well as a raffle and auction benefiting the scholarship program. Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group meeting

The Merced Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group meets from 1 to 2 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Hoffmeister Center, 1920 Canal St. Tingling or numbness of toes, fingers, feet or hands might be a sign of peripheral neuropathy. Farewell open house

An open-house farewell will be held for Sister Thomas Marie Heavey from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 15 at St. Anthony Parish Hall and school buildings, 1801 Winton Way in Atwater. Heavey, who has served as a religious education director for many years in the Merced area, will soon be transferred to the Franciscan Retreat House in Washington, D.C. Merced Theater auditions

The Merced College Theatre Department has announced auditions for its production of Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s classic comedy of manners “The Rivals.” Auditions will be held in the college theater Aug. 17 from 5 to 10 p.m. For more information, call the department at 209-386-6644.

AARP Merced’s monthly meeting

The AARP Merced monthly meeting will from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 26 at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 West 15th St. in Merced. Lunch will be served after the meeting, though the cost has been raised to $5. The meeting is open to the public.

Classes of ’60s reunion

A big reunion for Atwater High School students who graduated from Classes of 1960-69 is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Atwater APC Hall, 1420 Third St. in Atwater. Reunion for Le Grand
