Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony in Los Banos

The Los Banos Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony 10 a.m. Tuesday for Surf’s Up Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt, 107 W. Pacheco Blvd. in Los Banos. For more information, call 209-826-2495.

Back to School Night Event in Merced

The Salvation Army, Golden State Division will host a Back to School Night from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at 1440 W. 12th St. in Merced. Preregistration for the LINKED after-school program will be available, along with free haircuts for kids, a bounce castle, a bounce-house-type water slide, live music, free food, and more.

St. Anthony Preschool Orientation

St. Anthony Preschool will host an orientation for new and interested families at 7 p.m. Thursday in the preschool building at the school, 1801 Winton Way in Atwater. Policies and procedures will be discussed, teachers will be introduced, questions will be answered, and a tour of the preschool will be given. For more information, call 209-358-3341.

Exhibit reception at arts center

A free reception for the exhibit “Enlightened Perspectives: Interdisciplinary Art - A Mixed Media Show” will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Merced County Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. The exhibit showcases the collaborative work of UC Merced science researchers and local artists. Refreshments and snacks will be served. The exhibit runs through Sept. 29.

Farewell open house

An open-house farewell will be held for Sister Thomas Marie Heavey from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Parish Hall and school buildings, 1801 Winton Way in Atwater. Heavey, who has served as a religious education director for many years in the Merced area, will soon be transferred to the Franciscan Retreat House in Washington, D.C. Theater auditions

The Merced College Theatre Department has announced auditions for its production of Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s classic comedy of manners “The Rivals.” Auditions will be held in the college theater on Aug. 17 from 5 to 10 p.m. For more information, call the department at 209-386-6644.

Gospel Concert in Merced

Julie Eichelberger presents another Julie-N-Friends gospel music concert at 6 p.m. Aug. 30. This free event takes place at the Christian Life Center, 650 E. Olive Ave. in Merced. The guests include the Evidence Quartet of Yorba Linda, the Merced-based host group Bridge Of Grace, and, coming out of retirement for a special appearance in Merced, the Johnson Family Singers. Classes of the ’60s reunion

A big reunion for Atwater High School students who graduated from Classes of 1960-69 is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at Atwater APC Hall, 1420 Third St. in Atwater. Livingston Sweet Potato Festival

The City of Livingston will host its annual Sweet Potato Festival from Oct. 2 to Oct. 4 to celebrate the sweet potato harvest at the Max Foster Sports Complex, 2600 Walnut Ave. in Livingston. Organizers are looking for vendors and volunteers to help make this year’s event. Discount Carnival Tickets are on sale at City Hall beginning Sept. 1st.
