Barbecue Cook-Off at Club Mercedes
Club Mercedes will hold its second annual Barbecue Rib Cook-Off on Saturday at 569 W. Ninth St. Doors open at noon. Cover charge is $5 per person, 21 and older. Food and beverages will be available for an extra charge. Music will be provided by D.J. NAUS meeting at Castle Air Museum
The National Association for Uniformed Services, H. Wayne Hein Chapter 18, will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Castle Air Museum banquet room. Elks Park Pancake Breakfast
The Merced Elks Park crew will serve pancakes from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Merced Elks Park, 3600 Wardrobe Ave. Breakfast includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit, orange juice and coffee. Theater auditions for ‘The Rivals’
The Merced College Theatre Department will hold auditions for its production of Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s classic comedy of manners “The Rivals” in the college theater from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday. For more information, call the department at 209-386-6644.
Merced-Atwater Tea Party Meeting
The Merced-Atwater Tea Party regular monthly meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Atwater Memorial Building, Fifth Street and Broadway Avenue in Atwater. The speaker for the evening will be Stan Thurston, mayor of Merced. The group will also conduct its monthly straw poll for the presidential candidates. This event is open to to the public.
AARP Merced monthly meeting
The AARP Merced monthly meeting will from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 26 at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. Lunch will be served after the meeting, though the cost has been raised to $5. The meeting is open to the public.
Cancer workshop for women
A free two-hour workshop for female cancer patients experiencing appearance-related side effects from their treatment will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 14 at the UC Davis Mercy Cancer Center, 3850 G St. in Merced. Preregistration required. For more information, call 800-227-2345.
Volunteer drivers for cancer patients
The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers for its Road to Recovery program to drive cancer patients to treatments.
