Radio Control Club event

Merced County RC Club presents Combat Mania at 9 a.m. Sept. 5 at 500 S. Bert Crane Road in Atwater. Spectators are welcome. There will be food and drinks for sale. Call 209-631-1835.

Senior Club barbecue

Hot August Nights Bunco

The Wesley Foundation will host its Hot August Nights Bunco at 3 p.m. Aug. 30 at the United Methodist Church, Wesley Hall, 899 Yosemite Parkway in Merced. The event supports the foundation, a Christian fellowship for college students. Admission is $10 and includes snacks. There will be non-cash prizes for top point earners as well as the biggest loser. Cancer treatment workshop

A free two-hour workshop for female cancer patients experiencing appearance-related side effects will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 14 at the UC Davis Mercy Cancer Center, 3850 G St. in Merced. Preregistration required. Call 800-227-2345.

Merced Elks golf tournament

The Merced Elks Lodge will hold a charity golf tournament on Oct. 17 at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course, 5250 Green Sands Ave. in Atwater. Check-in is 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Lunch will be available. There will be raffle prizes, team prizes and closest-to-the-hole prizes. Gospel concert in Merced

Julie Eichelberger presents a free Julie-N-Friends gospel music concert at 6 p.m. Aug. 30 at Christian Life Center, 650 E. Olive Ave. in Merced. Sweet Potato Festival

The city of Livingston will host its annual Sweet Potato Festival on Oct. 2-4 to celebrate the sweet potato harvest at the Max Foster Sports Complex, 2600 Walnut Ave. in Livingston. The Recreation Department is looking for vendors and volunteers. Discount carnival tickets will be on sale at City Hall beginning Sept. 1. Parkinson’s support group

The Mission Gardens Parkinson’s Support Group will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at 1450 E. 27th St. in Merced. The featured speaker will be Isabel Nuno, a senior services program worker, who will address the four parts of Medicare and information about the Area Agency on Aging.
