Ribbon cutting for new sushi restaurant in Los Banos

The Los Banos Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Sugoi Rolls & Barbecue, a sushi and Korean-style restaurant, at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the restaurant, 1245 E. Pacheco Blvd. in Los Banos.

Free Worknet Business Workshop in Los Banos

Employers and small business owners are invited to attend an interactive workshop Aug. 28. Lisa Jordan, business owner and recognized expert in the field of disability and workforce development will show you how to expand your customer base and increase profitability. Menudo at Club Mercedes

Club Mercedes, a nonprofit organization, serves menudo on the last Sunday of every month at 569 W. Ninth St. in Merced. Serving time is from 8 a.m. until noon or until the menudo sells out. Prices are $4 for a baby bowl, $8 for a small bowl or $9 for a large bowl. Quesadillas are $1.50. The meal includes tortillas, condiments, coffee and pastries. Blood Mary specials are $5 each. Storytime at Barnes & Noble Merced

Barnes & Noble will host a Storytime for Kids event at 11 a.m. Sept. 5, at its Merced location, 1720 W. Olive Ave. Children can hear the story, “The Full Moon at the Napping House,” by Audrey and Don Wood. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 209-386-0571.

25th Bill Kirby Western Barbecue & Auction

Merced County Historical Society will host its 25th annual old-time western barbecue in memory of Bill Kirby at Lake Yosemite on Sept. 8. The event will feature live and silent auctions for dinners, vacation getaways, antique items, gourmet food and artwork. Tickets cost $50 and are on sale in the Courthouse Museum gift shop. Proceeds benefit museum programs and the Bill and Tom Kirby Agricultural Scholarship at Merced College. Call the museum office at 209-723-2401.

Classes of ’60s reunion

A big reunion for Atwater High School students who graduated from Classes of 1960-69 is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at Atwater APC Hall, 1420 Third St. in Atwater.
