Back to School Night in Merced
Merced High School will host its Back to School Night at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The principal’s welcome is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. and classroom visitation will begin promptly at 5:45 p.m. Counselors will be available in the main office throughout the evening to answer questions. Ribbon cutting for new sushi restaurant in Los Banos
Los Banos Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Sugoi Rolls & Barbecue, a sushi and Korean-style restaurant in Los Banos, at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the restaurant, 1245 E. Pacheco Blvd.
Family Hamburger Night in Livingston
The VFW Hamburger Night in Livingston will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Livingston Veterans Memorial Building, 1605 7th St. in Livingston. The public is invited, and you do not have to be a member to attend. You will be able to enjoy hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fish sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs and chili. Art reception from Merced County Fair
A free reception for the exhibit selections from the Merced County Fair will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Merced County Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. in Merced. Refreshments and snacks will be served. The exhibit runs until Sept. 22.
Farmers Insurance Group Women’s Lunch
All women who have worked at the Farmers Insurance Group regional office are invited to lunch at 11 a.m. Sept. 3 at 510 Bistro, 510 W. Main St. in Merced. The cost is $15 for a buffet lunch, which includes beverage and dessert. To make a reservation, call (209) 723-4317.
Storytime at Barnes & Noble Merced
Barnes & Noble will host a Storytime for Kids event at 11 a.m. Sept. 5, at its Merced location, 1720 W. Olive Ave. Children can hear the story, “The Full Moon at the Napping House,” by Audrey and Don Wood. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 209-386-0571.
Become an advocate for children in Merced
Court Appointed Special Advocates of Merced County will begin a new volunteer advocate training class Sept. 28. CASA is a nonprofit organization that trains volunteers to provide support and advocacy for abused and neglected children in the Merced County Foster Care System. These children have been removed from their homes, through no fault of their own, and need a consistent adult in their lives. For more information, call 209-722-2272.
