UC Merced 5K fundraiser
The UC Merced Alumni Association and Athletics and Recreation will host the inaugural UC Merced Journey 5K Fund Run on Saturday to celebrate the campus’s 10th anniversary. The event begins at 9 a.m., and parking is free. Students, staff and faculty members, alumni and community members are invited to participate. All proceeds from the run will support student scholarships. The goal is to raise $2,500, which will be matched 3-to-1. Registration for the 5K is $10; children age 10 and under are free. Storytime at Barnes & Noble
Barnes & Noble will host a Storytime for Kids event at 11 a.m. Saturday at its Merced location, 1720 W. Olive Ave. Children can hear “The Full Moon at the Napping House,” by Audrey and Don Wood. The event is free. For more information, call 209-386-0571.
Los Banos Car Show
The fifth annual Maxxlimit Cars & Burgers Los Banos Car Show will be held Sunday at the Les Schwab Tire Center parking lot, 1500 E. Pacheco Blvd. in Los Banos. Registration begins at 10 a.m., judging starts at 1 p.m. and awards will be announced at 3 p.m. The entry fee is $25. Vendor space is available for $39. Human Trafficking Awareness event
Debbie Johnson will speak during a Human Rights Celebration sponsored by Church Women United at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at First Baptist Church, 500 Buena Vista Drive. The event seeks to educate and alert students, youth leaders, parents, teachers to help rescue young people from human trafficking. For more information, call 209-769-1884.
Club Mercedes menudo Sundays
Club Mercedes will serve menudo every Sunday starting Sept. 13 and throughout the football season. Serving time runs 8 a.m. to noon or when the menudo runs out, whichever comes first. Baby bowls are $4, small bowls $8 and large bowls $9. Quesadillas are $1.50. Bloody marys are $5. Prices include coffee, condiments and pastry. Club Mercedes is located at 569 W. ‘Light Up the Lantern’
The UC Merced Police Department will host its annual “Light Up the Lantern” event Sept. 19 to support the campus Police Mentor Program, which benefits 200 Merced fourth-grade students and operates solely on grant and private funding. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the solar breezeway of Science and Engineering Building 2, with a reception and silent auction. Merced County Republican Women

Stephan Gray golf tournament
The 10th annual Stephan Gray Memorial Fund/Merced Police Officers Association Golf Tournament tees off at 8 a.m. Sept. 26 at the Rancho del Rey Golf Club, 5250 Green Sands Ave. in Atwater.
