Merced Senior Club barbecue

Storytime at Barnes & Noble Merced
Barnes & Noble will host a Storytime for Kids event at 11 a.m. Saturday at its Merced location, 1720 W. Olive Ave. Children can hear the story, “The Full Moon at the Napping House,” by Audrey and Don Wood. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 209-386-0571.
UC Merced 5K to support scholarships
The UC Merced Alumni Association and Athletics and Recreation will host the inaugural UC Merced Journey 5K Fund Run on Saturday to celebrate the campus’s 10th anniversary. The event begins at 9 a.m., and parking is free. Students, staff and faculty members, alumni and community members are invited to participate. All proceeds from the run will support student scholarships. The goal is to raise $2,500, which will be matched 3-to-1. Registration for the 5K is $10; children age 10 and under are free. Stephan Gray Memorial Golf Tournament
The 10th annual Stephan Gray Memorial Fund/Merced Police Officers Association Golf Tournament tees off at 8 a.m. Sept. 26 at the Rancho Del Rey Golf Club, 5250 Green Sands Ave. in Atwater. Become an adult literacy tutor
You can make a difference by volunteering as a literacy tutor in the Merced Library’s Read and Succeed-Merced adult literacy program. An informational orientation will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Merced Library, 2100 O St., Merced. A tutor training session follows from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 26. Orientation is prerequisite to training. Sessions are free. Participants must be 18 or older. Reservation required. Call the Literacy Room at 209-385-7391.
‘An Evening with Degas’ at Merced College
Merced College Community Services will be offering “An Evening with Degas” from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesdays through Sept. 16. During this class, students will explore the life and work of Degas and will re-create one of his master works using pastels. The cost is $45 per participant plus $15 materials fee. Delta Blues Festival bus trip
