Storytime at Barnes & Noble
Barnes & Noble will host a Storytime for Kids event at 11 a.m. today at 1720 W. Olive Ave. Children can hear the story “Llama Llama Gram and Grandpa,” by Anna Dewdney. The event is free. For more information, call 209-386-0571.
La Grange Odd Fellows breakfast
The La Grange Odd Fellows will host breakfast on the second Sunday of each month. The next meal is set for 7 to 11 a.m. Sunday at the IOOF Hall, 30018 Yosemite Blvd. in La Grange. The menu includes biscuits and gravy, sausage, ham-and-cheese omelets and French toast. The cost is $6. Complimentary coffee and orange juice round out the meal. South Pacific dance classes
South Pacific Dance Company is offering traditional dance, music and culture of Hawaii and Tahiti classes for its fall semester. Classes are for all ages, beginning at 4 years old for beginners and also for more advanced students. The Boots and Slippers Square Dance Club is presenting a new round of square dance lessons. Merced Sierra Club meeting
Ron Stork of Friends of the River will speak at the Merced Sierra Club meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 17. ‘Light Up the Lantern’ for at-risk youth
The UC Merced Police Department is set to host its annual “Light Up the Lantern” event Sept. 19 to support the campus Police Mentor Program. The program benefits 200 Merced fourth-grade students and operates solely on grant and private funding. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the solar breezeway of the Science and Engineering Building 2 with a reception and silent auction. Bloss Home barbecue celebration
Bloss Home in Atwater is celebrating its 101st year, and the Atwater Historical Society is putting on a “down home” barbecue of ribs, chicken and all the “fixins’” catered by Uncle Bucks Blazin B-B-Q, on Sept. 19. Entertainment will be provided by the Home Stilled String Band, and the Atwater and Buhach Colony High School Drama Club. A no-host bar opens at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The event will be held at 1020 Cedar Ave. in Atwater. Sheriff to speak to Republican Women

Stephan Gray golf tournament
