Day With Wildlife in Stanislaus County in Hughson
The Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center celebrates its 31st anniversary with its annual Day With Wildlife on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no admission charge. Raffle items can be found at its website, www.stanislauswildlife.org. The center is inside Fox Grove Fishing Access, 1220 Geer Road, Hughson.
Breakfast at Applegate Park Zoo
Visitors to Applegate Park Zoo can enjoy a complete pancake, scrambled eggs and sausage breakfast in the Rossotti Ed-Zoo-Cation Center before seeing the animals on exhibit in the zoo from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. Tickets can be purchased in the zoo gift shop or by calling 209-756-4014. All proceeds from the event, sponsored by the Merced Zoological Society, benefit zoo programs.
Bloss Home barbecue celebration in Atwater
Bloss Home in Atwater is celebrating its 101st year, and the Atwater Historical Society is putting on a “down home” barbecue of ribs, chicken and all the fixings catered by Uncle Bucks Blazin’ B-B-Q on Saturday. Entertainment will be provided by the “Home Stilled String Band” and the Atwater and Buhach Colony High School Drama Club. The no-host bar opens at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The event will be held at 1020 Cedar Ave. in Atwater. Elks Park Breakfast
Merced Elks Park will be serving biscuits and gravy from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Elk’s Park, 3600 Wardrobe Ave. The menu also includes scrambled eggs, hash browns, fresh fruit, orange juice and coffee. Community Yard Sale in Le Grand
A communitywide yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Le Grand United Methodist Church, 3081 Washington St. in Le Grand. Setup is free and begins at 7:30 am. Anyone planning to sell items must bring their own setup tables. For more information, call 209-389-4753.
Atwater High School homecoming parade
The Atwater High School homecoming parade will begin at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 2. at Fosters Freeze, 1401 Winton Way in Atwater, and end at Atwater High, 2201 Fruitland Ave. School officials invite car clubs, local businesses and any other organizations to join the festivities. Hip and knee pain seminar in Turlock
Emanuel Medical Center will host a free hip and knee pain seminar. The event will feature presentations by six local orthopedic surgeons, followed by a question-and-answer session. The seminar will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Conference Room C at Emanuel Medical Center, 825 Delbon Ave. in Turlock. The program is free, but preregistration is required. AARP meeting/barbecue
The AARP Merced monthly meeting will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. After the business meeting, the annual barbecue will be held. Entrees include a choice of hot dogs, chicken breasts or pulled pork sandwiches. Also included are beans, potato salad, coleslaw, a roll and ice cream. Prices range from $5 to $10, depending on choice of entree. A two-entree combo plate is $10. Takeout is available. Tickets may be purchased in advance from AARP members or at the door for $10. New Beginnings fundraiser in Turlock
New Beginnings for Merced County Animals is hosting “Whine and Whiskers,” a wine and hors d’ oeuvres fundraiser from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 9 at Pageo Lavender Farms, 11573 Golf Link Road in Turlock. Tickets are $30 each or $300 for a table sponsorship and may be obtained at Christina’s Fine Clothing in Bear Creek Plaza, Maciel’s & Co. in the Merced Mall or Valley Animal Hospital.
