South Pacific Dance Classes in Merced
South Pacific Dance Company is offering traditional dance, music and culture of Hawaii and Tahiti classes for its fall semester. Classes are for all ages, beginning at 4 years old for beginners and more advanced students. Merced County Humane Society Adoption Events
Merced County Humane Society has weekly adoptions from noon to 4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday at Petsmart, 1196 W. Olive Ave. in Merced. There are puppies, kittens, dogs and cats who are all raised in foster homes and are ready to find forever homes. For more information, email mchs324@gmail.com.
Become An Adult Literacy Tutor
You can make a difference in their lives by volunteering as a literacy tutor in the Merced Library’s Read And Succeed adult literacy program. An informational orientation will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Merced Library, 2100 O St. A tutor training session follows from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturday. Orientation is a prerequisite to training. Sessions are free. Participants must be 18 or older. Reservation required. Call the Literacy Room at (209) 385-7391.
Storytime at Barnes & Noble
Barnes & Noble will host a Storytime for Kids event at 11 a.m. Saturday at its Merced location, 1720 W. Olive Ave. Children can hear the story, “Max the Brave,” by Ed Vere. The event is free. For more information, call 209-386-0571.
Stephan Gray Memorial Golf Tournament
The 10th annual Stephan Gray Memorial Fund/Merced Police Officers Association Golf Tournament tees off at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Rancho Del Rey Golf Club, 5250 Green Sands Ave., in Atwater. El Nido School’s 100th Celebration
El Nido School’s centennial celebration will be held 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, at El Nido School, 161 E. El Nido Road. All are invited to attend. Event features catered tri-tip and chicken lunch. Atwater High School Homecoming Parade
The parade is going to be at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 2. at Fosters Freeze, 1401 Winton Way, and will end at Atwater High School, 2201 Fruitland Ave. School officials invite any car clubs, local business, and any other organizations to join the festivities. Community Yard Sale in Le Grand

New Beginnings Fundraiser
New Beginnings for Merced County Animals is hosting “Whine and Whiskers,” a wine and hors d’oeuvres fundraiser from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 9 at Pageo Lavender Farms, 11573 Golf Link Road, in Turlock. Tickets are $30 each or $300 for a table sponsorship and may be obtained at Christina’s Fine Clothing in the Bear Creek Plaza, Maciel’s & Co. in the Merced Mall or Valley Animal Hospital.
