Excellence in Education awards
The Merced County Office of Education and Educational Employees Credit Union will host the annual Excellence in Education awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Merced Theatre, 301 Main St. The program, formerly “Teacher of the Year,” now has two categories: one for teachers and one for other school employees. Youth behavior issues class
NAMI Basics is a six-week class for parents and caregivers of children whose behavioral problems have become alarming. Basics is for families looking for help, education and support coping with their child’s problems. The course begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at 480 E. 13th St. Space is limited and preregistration is required. Atwater FFA plant sale
The Atwater High School Future Farmers of America program will host its annual fall plant sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 2-3 at the Atwater High School Agriculture Department. For more information, go to www.atwaterffa.org. All proceeds support the school’s FFA and horticulture program.
Atwater High School homecoming parade
The Atwater High School homecoming parade will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Fosters Freeze, 1401 Winton Way, and will end at Atwater High School, 2201 Fruitland Ave. School officials invite all car clubs, local businesses and organizations to join the festivities. Harvest of Quilts event
The Merced Gateway Quilters Guild will host its Harvest of Quilts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 3 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 4. at the Merced County Fairgrounds Pavilion. Some items will be for sale or may be won through a boutique raffle. Activities for adults and children, including a treasure hunt for children, will be available. A lunch including a potato bar, salad and pie will be served along with drinks and desserts. Adult tickets are $7, and children 12 and under accompanied by an adult with a ticket get in free. Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group
The Merced Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group’s next meeting is from 1 to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Hoffmeister Center, 1920 Canal St. Tingling or numb toes, fingers, feet or hands might indicate peripheral neuropathy. Pedal Merced event
United Way’s eighth annual Pedal Merced Family Bicycle Fest will be held Oct. 11, starting and finishing at Merced High School. Registration is open. Applications are available at www.pedalmerced.org or at the United Way office, 658 W. Main St. Pedal Merced is a 10-mile ride along Merced’s bicycle path and includes a free barbecue lunch, games and prizes, community booths and raffles. For more information, call 209-383-4242.
