Livingston High School homecoming
The Livingston High School homecoming parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Main and C streets in Livingston and will proceed down Main Street to the high school. This year’s theme is “Toon Into LHS Homecoming.” Livingston will play Central Valley High School. The varsity game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and the homecoming king and queen will be crowned during halftime.
Storytime at Barnes & Noble Merced
Barnes & Noble will host a Storytime for Kids event at 11 a.m. Saturday at its Merced location, 1720 W. Olive Ave. Children can hear the story, “Imaginary Fred,” by Eoin Colfer and Oliver Jeffers. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 209-386-0571.
Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Merced
The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Merced-area residents to participate in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Merced walk will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday at Applegate Park in front of the amphitheater. Registration starts at 8 a.m.
St. Anthony School yard sale
St. Anthony School will have a yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday in the parish hall, 1801 Winton Way in Atwater. Items from an estate as well as parish and school items will be sold including missals, tapes, CDs, desks, organizers, bookshelves, knick-knacks, coffee tables, sofa, chairs, books, lamps and filing cabinets. Proceed will go to St. Anthony School.
Vision Fair in Merced
The Center of Vision Enhancement in Merced is hosting a Vision Fair for people with blindness or low vision. The event will provide information about resources and technology. Exhibits and free vision screenings will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Merced Senior Community Center. For more information, contact COVE at 209-722-8118.
Free flu shots, medical screenings
Free flu shots and other medical screenings will be available to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Merced County Office of Education, 632 W. 13th Street. The event is part of several flu clinics put on throughout this month as part of Binational Health Week.
Food Forest Project meeting in Los Banos
Merced College’s Los Banos Campus will host a community meeting at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 to discuss the progress of the campus’ Food Forest Project. A food forest is a design concept in which landscaping patterns mimic that of a forest. The goal of the project is to repurpose an inactive 1-acre lot next to Los Banos Creek into a sustainable woodland ecosystem. The meeting will be held at the Los Banos campus in Room A-103, located at 22240 Highway 152.
Tiny Tots Pumpkin Party in Merced
The city of Merced is inviting families to the annual Tiny Tots Pumpkin Party that will take place Oct. 28. The event is a time for children between ages 3 and 6 to decorate a pumpkin and partake in other Halloween fun. Costumes are welcome. The party starts at 5:15 p.m. at the Merced Civic Center, 678 W. 18th St. The cost is $5 per child. Space is limited, so preregistration is required. To register, call 209-385-6298.
