Chamber dinner, auction
The Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce will hold its 27th Annual Cioppino Dinner and Auction tonight at St. Patrick’s Hall, located at 671 E. Yosemite Ave. Individual tickets are $50, table of eight $400, and Gold Sponsor $600. A Gold Sponsor includes a table of eight with complimentary drink tickets and advertising in the dinner program. Doors open at 5 p.m., silent auction at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. For more information call (209) 384-7092.
Steak fundraiser
ATWATER – The Atwater Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9946 will hold its Steak Dinner Fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at 1390 Broadway Ave.. The dinner includes steak cooked to order, baked potato and roll. Cost is $10 in advance, $12 at the door. For more information, call (209) 358-7224.
SPCA luncheon
The Merced Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will hold its Enchilada/ Tostada Luncheon from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Los Panchos Mexican restuarant, 2971 G St. Tickets are $15, raffle tickets are $1. For more information, call (209) 384-7722.
Gray/Cannella hours
State Sen. Anthony Cannella’s staff, in partnership with Assemblyman Adam Gray, will hold mobile office hours in Los Banos and Dos Palos on Thursday. Hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 520 J St. in Los Banos, and 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 2174 Blossom St. in Dos Palos. Staff will be able to provide assistance to constituents on a variety of issues, including with DMV, Employment Development Department or matters involving other state agencies or state legislation. Bazaar and brunch
LE GRAND – The Le Grand United Methodist Bazaar and Brunch is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Baxter Hall and the Meditation Garden, 13065 Adams St. A buffet-style brunch will be served from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Tickets will be available at the door for a donation of $5. Children age 10 and under eat free. There will be a prize drawing. Tickets for the drawing are $1 each or six for $5. All proceeds go to the new roof and repair of the bell tower on the historic 132 old church building.
Literacy tutors
Share the gift of reading with another. Join volunteer tutors at Merced County libraries by calling the Read And Succeed-Merced Adult Literacy Program at (209) 385-7391 to reserve your space at the information orientation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2. For those interested, a tutor training follows from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 6. Both events are at the Merced County Library, 2100 O St. Attendees must be 18 or older. Reservation required.
Youth Council
The Merced Youth Council will discuss the selection of new members and its goals at a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 678 W. 18th St. The council’s deadline for applications to fill three vacant seats is Saturday. Applications are available at local high schools and online at www.cityofmerced.org.
Financial aid for women
Women who serve as the primary wage earners for their families and seek financial assistance to continue their higher education or receive training can apply for the Soroptimist Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women. Applications can be obtained by contacting Geri Brown at (209) 723-2990 or justnow@comcast.net. Application deadline is Saturday.
Holiday craft fair
A Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair is scheduled to take place 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, 500 Buena Vista Drive. The event will include vendors, food booths and prizes.
