Food forest project meeting in Los Banos

Merced College’s Los Banos campus will host a community meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday to discuss the progress of a food forest project at the campus. A food forest is a design concept in which landscaping patterns mimic that of a forest. The goal of the project is to repurpose an inactive 1-acre lot next to Los Banos Creek into a sustainable woodland ecosystem. The meeting will be held in Room A-103 at the Los Banos campus, 22240 Highway 152.

Annual Pedrozo dinner in El Nido

Merced County Supervisor John Pedrozo will host his annual Portuguese beans and linguica dinner 5 p.m. Wednesday, at El Nido Community Hall, Highway 59, in El Nido. All-you-can-eat linguica, Portuguese beans, rolls, salad and beverages will be served for $25 per person; takeout is available.

Merced Cancer Center’s cancer support group

Support groups will be held every first Wednesday of the month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. People tend to feel more comfortable sharing their experiences and getting their feelings out in the open with others who have experienced similar situations. Summit Christian School golf tournament

Summit Christian School is having its first annual golf tournament at 9 a.m. Oct. 24 at at Sierra Meadows Country Club, 46516 Opah Drive, Awhahnee. Entry fee is $100 per player and 50 percent will go to the Christ-centered school in Mariposa. For more information, call 209-966-7636 during office hours.

Genealogy classes

Discover Your Family day is from 9 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church building, 2976 N. McKee Road. There is no cost and no need to register. For more information, call 209-722-2037.

Lions in Sight event in Livingston

The Lions White Cane Road Block to collect money for Lions in Sight will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 at Main and F streets in Livingston. The project is an International Lions Project that recycles eyeglasses, has eliminated River Blindness, and is working on all other causes of blindness around the world. Pumpkin Party for kids

Sign up your little ghosts or goblins for the city of Merced’s annual Tiny Tots Pumpkin Party. The Pumpkin Party is a time for kids ages 3 to 6 to decorate a pumpkin and partake in other Halloween fun. Costumes and parents are welcome. The party starts at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Sam Pipes Room of the Merced Civic Center, 678 W. 18th St. The cost is $5 a child. Space is limited, so preregistration is required. Register at the city of Merced Parks and Recreation Department in the Civic Center or by calling 209-385-6298.
