Halloween Wonderland at Applegate Zoo

Applegate Park Zoo will soon be transformed into its annual Halloween wonderland from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings. There will also be carnival games just outside the entrance gate. Put on a costume and come join us for an enjoyable and safe trick-or-treating event! Entrance fee is still only $1.50 for anyone more than 2 years old, and there will be fun for all.

Fall Fizz Brunch

The Boys & Girls Club of Merced County and Albertoni & Associates law firm will once again team up to host the annual Fall Fizz Brunch, a fundraiser for the club. The event is set for 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the club, 615 W. 15th St., Merced. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children. Purchase tickets at the club or at Albertoni & Associates, 2121 K St. in Merced.

Genealogy classes in Merced

“Discover Your Family” Day is from 9 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church building, 2976 N. McKee Road, Merced. There is not cost and no need to register. For more information, call 209-722-2037.

Pumpkin Party for Kids in Merced

Sign up your little ghosts or goblins for the city of Merced’s annual Tiny Tots Pumpkin Party. The Pumpkin Party is a time for kids ages 3 to 6 to decorate a pumpkin and partake in other Halloween fun. Costumes and parents are welcome. The party starts at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Sam Pipes Room in the Merced Civic Center, 678 W. 18th St. The cost is $5 a child. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required. Register at the Merced Parks and Recreation Department in the Civic Center or by calling 209-385-6298.

Free mammograms

Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock will provide free mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women. A $20,000 grant from the Bill and Elise Ahlem Cancer Endowment will allow the hospital to provide screenings to the first 100 women who sign up. To schedule an appointment, call 209-669-4600

Fitness Lab

Merced College Community Services will be offering Fitness Lab membership beginning Nov. 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 a.m., Monday through Friday ending Nov. 30. The cost is $25 per participant. For more information, call 209-384-6224 or email communitysvc@mccd.edu.

Aikido classes

Merced College Community Services will be offering Aikido classes beginning Nov. 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Dec. 17. The cost is $65 per participant. For more information, call 209-384-6224 or email communitysvc@mccd.edu.
