Merced firefighters Fill-the-Boot fundraiser
Merced City Firefighters Local 1479 will Fill-the-Boot to raise funds for the Central California Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Olive and G streets. Funds raised through Fill-the-Boot will provide the following MDA services to local families: support groups, medical clinics, medical equipment, and the annual Youth Summer Camp that is 100 percent wheelchair accessible – even the swimming pool.
Take-out rigatoni dinners
The Merced Breakfast Lions Club annual rigatoni take-out dinners will be available between 4 and 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Italo-American Lodge, 1351 W. 18th St. in Merced. The cost is $8 and includes rigatoni, salad and rolls. Proceeds benefit numerous youth activities. For information or tickets, call 209-722-8949.
Anniversaries at St. Paul Lutheran Church
St. Paul Lutheran Church is getting ready to celebrate three milestones. The church is celebrating its 75th anniversary, as well as the 25th anniversary of the church’s school. The church’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society is also turning 65. A celebration will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2916 N. McKee Road in Merced. Madera County Farm Bureau centennial celebration
The Madera County Farm Bureau will celebrate its centennial Sunday at the Madera County Fairgrounds in the Eastman Hall, 1000 S. Third St., Chowchilla. Guest speakers include Bill Coate, Madera historian; Joseph I. Castro, Ph.D., M.P.P., Fresno State president; and Paul J. Wenger, California Farm Bureau Federation president. Fundraiser for Food Bank
The second annual Share the Harvest with Grateful Hearts party to benefit the Merced County Food Bank will take place Nov. 7. Last year the benefit raised 3,000 pounds of food and $7,000 through community sponsorship. This year the goal is to raise $30,000 for the food bank’s senior brown bag program. The fundraiser will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Vista Ranch and Cellars. Admittance is free with a bag of nonperishable groceries.
A day at Apple Hill, bus trip
Merced College Community Services will be offering a bus trip to Apple Hill in Placerville on Nov. 7. The bus will be leaving at 6:30 a.m. from Merced and returning by 6 p.m. The cost is $99 per participant. For more information, call 209-384-6224 or email communitysvc@mccd.edu.
Kops for Kids fundraiser
The Atwater City Fire Department will host a tri-tip dinner fundraiser for its annual Kops for Kids Toy Drive. The drive-thru event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 14 at 699 Broadway Ave. in Atwater. Dinner for four, priced at $45, will include a whole barrel smoked tri-tip, firehouse beans, salad and rolls. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Courthouse Museum tree display
Registration is open for the Christmas tree display at the Merced County Courthouse Museum. Registration forms for the event can be found at the museum, located at West 21st and N streets in Merced, from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The Open House will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 6. The Christmas trees decorate the historical building and publicize an organization, school, classroom or business. Registration is due Nov. 9. The Merced County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for Latino Man and Latina Woman of the Year. The award will be presented at the 2015 Installation and Awards Dinner on Dec. 11 at Gateway Gardens, 800 W. 18th St., Merced. Free mammograms
Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock will provide free mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women. A $20,000 grant from the Bill and Elise Ahlem Cancer Endowment will allow the hospital to provide screenings to the first 100 women who sign up. To schedule an appointment, call 209-669-4600.
