Hamburger Night in Livingston
The VFW will host a Hamburger Night from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Livingston Veterans Memorial Building, 1605 7th St., Livingston. The public is invited, and you do not have to be a member to attend. The menu includes hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fish sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs and chili. Price ranges from $2.50 to $5 per meal. All proceeds go to help support our community programs. Buddy Poppy Drive
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4327 of Merced will hold its Buddy Poppy Drive on Nov. 6-7. The VFW Buddy Poppy program provides compensation to the veterans who assemble the poppies, which have become the official memorial flower for the VFW. Donations, cans and tables will be set up from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily at multiple locations throughout Merced, including Save Mart, Walgreens, Bar-B-Q Pit and Paul’s Place. Donations will help support veteran programs and the VFW National Home for Children and other veterans programs.
Marine Corps birthday celebration
The American Legion will celebrate the Marines Corps’ 240th birthday at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at 1939 W. Main St. The celebration includes a flag ceremony and cake-cutting at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call Gayle Callahan at 209-722-7366.
Supervisors to honor volunteers
The Merced County Board of Supervisors will present a certificate of appreciation to the California Retired Teachers Association of Merced/Mariposa at its regular meeting Nov. 17 in Merced. The honor will come after Retired Teachers Week, typically recognized the first week of November. Volunteer hours included providing transportation for members of the community in need of medical care or appointments, assisting in school activities, working with both youth and adult groups, assisting in fundraisers to provide scholarships for prospective teachers and more.
Christmas Parade in Livingston
The city of Livingston is looking for vendors and parade entries for its 14th annual Lighted Christmas Parade and Gift Fair, to be held Dec. 4. The gift fair will begin at 5 p.m. on Main Street and the parade will begin at 7 p.m. at Memorial Park on Main Street and end at D Street. Activities include Christmas caroling in the streets. Vendor space is available for $25. Vendors will be taken as space permits. Parade entries are free. This year’s theme is “Home for the Holidays.” Entry forms and booth applications are available at City Hall, 1416 C St., or online at www.livingstoncity.com.
