Trunk or Treat

The Boys & Girls Club of Merced County will host its annual Trunk or Treat on Saturday. The event is set for 3 to 6 p.m. at the club, 615 W. 15th St. Admission is $1. Children 3 and up are welcome; children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Sweet swap

Trade leftover Halloween candy for prizes from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Dr. Von Goodin’s dental office, 830 W. Olive Ave. Candy donated is sent to troops in the U.S. and overseas. For every pound of candy, you receive a treasure box. First 100 Kids receive a complimentary goody bag filled with surprises. Face painting, a balloon artist and prize drawings will be happening. Merced chancellor talk in Modesto

The Business Women’s Symposium will present insights, inspiration and motivational ideas from successful business and educational leaders addressing core topics that impact every businessperson today. The event runs from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at 953 10th St., Modesto. The cost is $20 and includes a breakfast buffet, raffle entry and swag bag. Keynote speakers for the nearly sold-out event are Gallo Center for the Arts CEO Lynn Dickerson and UC Merced Chancellor Dorothy Hughes. Pancake breakfast for GVHS

Kiwanis is partnering with Golden Valley High School Tennis and Soccer to host a pancake breakfast fundraiser at the GVHS cafeteria from 7 a.m. to noon Nov. 8. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door or from one of the athletes. For more information, call 209-631-4941.

Buddy Poppy Drive

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4327 of Merced will hold its Buddy Poppy Drive on Nov.6-7. The VFW Buddy Poppy program provides compensation to the veterans who assemble the poppies, which have become the official memorial flower for the VFW. Donations, cans and tables will be set up from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily at multiple locations throughout Merced, including Save Mart, Walgreens, Bar-B-Q Pit and Paul’s Place. Donations will help support veteran programs and the VFW National Home for Children and other veterans programs.

Kops for Kids fundraiser in Atwater

The Atwater City Fire Department will host a tri-tip dinner fundraiser for its annual Kops for Kids Toy Drive. The drive-thru event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 14 at 699 Broadway Ave. in Atwater. Dinner for four, priced at $45, will include a whole barrel smoked tri-tip, firehouse beans, salad and rolls. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Courthouse Museum Xmas tree display

Registration is open for the Christmas tree display at the Merced County Courthouse Museum. Registration forms for the event can be found at the museum, West 21st and N streets, from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The Open House will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 6. The Christmas trees decorate the historical building and publicize an organization, school, classroom or business. Registration is due Nov. 9. Hispanic Chamber installation, awards

The Merced County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s installation and awards dinner is set for 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 11 at Gateway Gardens, 800 W. 18th St. Tickets for MCHCC members are $40, or table of eight for $300; nonmembers $45, or table of eight for $340.
