Storytime at Barnes & Noble Merced

Barnes & Noble will host a Storytime for Kids event at 11 a.m. Saturday at its Merced location, 1720 W. Olive Ave. Children will hear “The Little Kids’ Table.” The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 209-386-0571.

Veterans tribute program

Forever Free, presented by the Fremont Honor Choir, will feature 60 students in fourth through sixth grades from Fremont Elementary. They will share this program with the veterans of the Merced area. The free program is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Merced American Legion Hall, 939 W. Main St. For more information, call 209-947-3673.

‘Wrestling With Hunger’ event

Lucha Xtreme will host the “Wrestling With Hunger” event in Merced on Saturday along with a canned food drive for families in need. The event, held at American Legion Post 83, 939 W. Main St., will feature wrestlers such as Al Azar, Guerrero de la Muerte, Jesse “The Snake” Poole, Mortal, Manny “Raging Bull” Fernandez and the Texas Hitmen. The event is free and seats are first come, first served. Those who attend are encouraged to make a canned food donation. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and bell time is 5. Save Our Youth essay contest

Children ages 7 to 11 will be able to win prizes by participating in the Save Our Youth essay contest. Through their writing, children from the community will demonstrate their understanding of teasing, bullying, peer pressure, gang assimilation and drug use. On Nov. 28, children will read their essays in front of an audience at the Boys and Girls Club of Merced, 615 W. 15th St. For more entry information, call 209-489-7516.

AARP Merced bus trip

AARP Merced Chapter 282 is planning a bus day trip to Columbia on Dec. 6. Lunch will be served at the City Hotel and What Cheer Saloon, followed by a visit to the Fallon House Theater to watch a performance of “A Columbia Christmas Carol.” The cost of the trip is $75 and it is open to the public. The bus will be wheelchair-accessible. Seating is limited and the deadline for reservations is Nov. 30.
