Storytime at Barnes & Noble Merced

Barnes & Noble will host a Storytime for Kids event at 11 a.m. Saturday at its Merced location, 1720 W. Olive Ave. Children will hear “The Little Kids’ Table.” The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 209-386-0571.

Wrestling with Hunger Event

Lucha Xtreme will host the Wrestling with Hunger event in Merced on Saturday along with a canned food drive for families in need. The event, held at American Legion Post 83 on Main Street, will feature wrestlers such as Al Azar, El Guerrero de la Muerte, Jesse “The Snake” Poole, Mortal, Manny “Raging Bull” Fernandez and the Texas Hitmen. The event is free, and seats are first-come, first-served. Those who attend are encouraged to make a canned food donation. Holiday craft fair in Atwater

Atwater VFW Hall opens its doors at the corner of Fifth and Broadway in Atwater for the holiday craft and vendor fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 28. Lots of parking available. The event will feature Christmas crafts, bottle caps and wooden items, plus vendors from nail art, charms, oils and nutrition for great Christmas gifts. Lunch salad bar available from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. for $7. Disabled parking spots and ramp in rear of building.

Hunting & Fishing Collectible Show

A Hunting & Fishing Collectible Show will be held Dec. 4 and 5 in Los Banos. The show is for wildlife and sporting art, antique duck decoys, rods, reels, tackle, lures, and vintage hunting and fishing gear. Free appraisals will be given on old decoys and vintage items. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 4 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 5 at The Sportsmen’s Club, 13989 Mercey Springs Road. For more information, call 559-259-5755.

Mature Driver Improvement class

Merced College Noncredit Program is offering Mature Driver Improvement class in December. Many insurance companies offer discounts to drivers 50 and older who complete this course. There is no registration fee for this class. The first class runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Merced Education Center. Call the Continuing Education Office at 209-381-6540 to preregister.

Mariposa Kops for Kids

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office and its Deputy Sheriff’s Association are requesting donations for the 19th annual Kops for Kids program. Donations go toward toys for children whose parents cannot afford to give them Christmas presents. Monetary donations or new and unwrapped toys can be sent via mail to the sheriff’s office at P.O. Box 276, Mariposa, 95338 or dropped off at the sheriff’s office at 5099 Old Highway in Mariposa. Checks can be made payable to the Mariposa County Deputy Sheriff’s Association. For parents or guardians of children under 18, applications to register for the program are available at the Mariposa County Human Services Building, 5362 Lemme Lane.

SPCA seeking homes for pets

The Merced Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 1021 E. Childs Ave., is in need of foster families for some of the cats and dogs in the no-kill animal shelter. Grown dogs and cats as well as puppies and kittens are available for adoption. Call the shelter at 209-384-SPCA or 209-761-7174 and ask for Leslie. An orientation on fostering will be given. SPCA is also in need of clumping litter. Call the shelter at 209-723-2574 and ask for Florence. If the litter can’t be dropped off, SPCA members can pick it up.

Indoor Youth Soccer

The city of Merced’s Recreation Department and the Indoor Sports Center will be offering Indoor Youth Soccer on Saturdays staring Jan. 9 until Feb. 27. The program is for children ages 3 to 10, and will take place at the Indoor Sports Center. The cost is $45, plus an additional $10 for the uniform. Registration deadline is Dec. 4. Register at 1033 West Main St. or call 209-385-6298 for more information.
