Homes for pets
The Merced Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is in need of foster families for some of the cats and dogs in the No Kill Animal Shelter. Grown dogs and cats as well as puppies and kittens are available for adoption. Call the shelter at 209-384-7722 or 209-761-7174 and ask for Leslie. Orientation on fostering will be given. SPCA is also in need of clumping litter; call the shelter at 209-723-2574 and ask for Florence. If the litter can’t be dropped off, SPCA members can pick it up.
Free errand Tuesdays
The Foundation for Wellness Professionals, a nonprofit group of volunteers, is offering to run errands in the Merced-Atwater area at no cost for senior citizens and/or others unable to leave their homes between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday until the end of the year. Women’s Club Christmas Social
The Merced Women’s Club is holding its annual Christmas Social at 1 p.m. Tuesday at 707 W. 22nd St. Activities include bridge, cards, bingo and board games, along with desserts, beverages nd raffle prizes. Donations of $10 per person are appreciated. For ticket information, call 209-723-1169.
Senior Social Club Christmas lunch
The Merced Senior Social Club Christmas lunch of ham and trimmings will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at 755 W. 15th St. The cost for members is $6; nonmembers $8. Tickets will be sold at the Senior Center on 15th Street on Monday and Tuesday. For more information, call 209-383-6057.
Hunting and fishing collectibles show
A hunting and fishing collectibles show will be held Friday and Saturday in Los Banos. The show is for wildlife and sporting art, antique duck decoys, rods, reels, tackle, lures, and vintage hunting and fishing gear. Free appraisals will be given on old decoys and vintage items. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday at The Sportsmen’s Clun, 13989 Mercey Springs Road. For more information, call 559-259-5755.
Mature driver improvement
The Merced College noncredit program is offering a mature driver improvement class in December. Many insurance companies offer discounts to drivers 50 and older who complete this course. There is no registration fee for this class. The first class runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Merced Education Center. To preregister, call the Continuing Education Office at 209-381-6540.
Santa’s pancake breakfast
The Gauchos Diamond Club Boosters will host a pancake breakfast with Santa to help raise money for El Capitan High School baseball. The breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, fruit, coffee, orange juice and pictures with Santa. Cost is $5 per plate. Indoor youth soccer
The city of Merced’s Recreation Department and the Indoor Sports Center will be offering indoor youth soccer on Saturdays from Jan. 9 through Feb. 27. The program is for children ages 3 to 10, and will take place at the Indoor Sports Center. The cost is $45 plus an additional $10 for the uniform. Registration deadline is Friday. Register at 1033 W.
