Pet adoption event in Atwater

New Beginnings for Merced County Animals will be holding an adoption event Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Petco in Atwater. The adoption fee includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate shots and an examination and tests by a veterinarian. For more information, call 209-769-8953.

Bake sale benefits animals

New Beginnings for Animals is having a bake sale Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Christina’s Fine Clothing in the Bear Creek Galleria, corner of Bear Creek and G Street in Merced. Baked items will be available as well as gift baskets and opportunity drawings. All proceeds go to benefit Merced County animals. For more information, call 209-628-0296.

Christmas meeting for Merced Republican Women

The Merced County Republican Women’s next meeting will feature the Classic Christmas Carolers. They will have costumes of “old-fashioned carolers” and stroll around the tables performing. The meeting is set for 11:30 a.m., and lunch is served at noon Dec. 21 at the Branding Iron in Merced. If you plan on having lunch with us, you need to call 209-812-4398 or 209-761-0550 by Dec. 16. They will also be collecting “Toys for Tots.”

Fourth annual Artisan Fair

Over 40 local artists will be displaying their work at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St., on Dec. 4 and 5 at the fourth annual Holiday Artisan Fair and Arbor Gallery Open House. Handmade jewelry, ceramics, fruit and nuts, paintings, wooden bowls, among other items will be available for holiday shopping. All items are made by Merced-area artist and artists.

Burger benefit for Salvation Army

The Native Daughters of the Golden West is teaming up with Carl’s Jr. to help out the Salvation Army. On Dec. 9 and 10, Carl’s Jr. will give 25 percent of all sales generated to the Native Daughters, which will then be passed on to the Salvation Army.

Christmas Eve celebration

Join ISMA Ministries Inc. in celebrating Jesus this Christmas season. Refreshments provided. This event is free and open to the public and runs from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 24 at McCombs Youth Center, 615 W. 15th St. in Merced. For more information, call 209-725-1761.

Become an advocate for children

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Merced County will begin a new volunteer advocate training class Jan. 20. An orientation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Dec. 29. CASA is a nonprofit organization that trains volunteers to provide support and advocacy for the abused and neglected children in the Merced County foster care system.
