Pet Adoption event in Atwater

New Beginnings for Merced County Animals will be holding an adoption event Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Petco in Atwater. The adoption fee includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate shots, and an examination and tests by a veterinarian. For more information, call 209-769-8953.

KIDZ BOP in Merced

KIDZ BOP is coming to Merced on Dec. 11 for a special stop on its Make Some Noise Holiday Tour. KIDZ BOP will perform holiday classics in addition to favorites from the best-selling KIDZ BOP series. Tickets are on sale for the Merced Theatre show. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7. To purchase tickets, visit tickets.mercedtheatre.org.

Bake sale benefits animals

New Beginnings for Animals is having a bake sale Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Christina’s Fine Clothing in the Bear Creek Galleria, corner of North Bear Creek Drive and G Street in Merced. Baked items perfect for family, friends, neighbors, teachers and co-workers will be available, as well as gift baskets and opportunity drawings. All proceeds go to benefit Merced County animals. Odd Fellows breakfast

The Odd Fellows of LaFayette Historical Lodge 65 will host its monthly breakfast Dec. 13. in the IOOF Hall in downtown La Grange from 7 to 11 a.m. The menu includes biscuits and gravy, sausage, ham and cheese omelets, and French toast, along with coffee and orange juice, all for $6. AARP Merced’s monthly meeting

The AARP Merced monthly meeting will be Dec. 16 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 West 15th St. The Fire Department will talk about its home fire alarm program. After the meeting, lunch will be served for $5 and desserts will be provided by members. The meeting is open to the public.

Christmas meeting for Republican Women

The Merced County Republican Women’s next meeting will be special. The Classic Christmas Carolers will perform for the group. They will have old-fashioned caroler costumes and stroll around the tables performing. The meeting is set for 11:30 a.m. and lunch is served at noon Dec. 21 at the Branding Iron in Merced. If you plan on having lunch, call 209-812-4398 or 209-761-0550 by Dec. 16. The group will also be collecting items for Toys for Tots.

Become an advocate for children

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Merced County will begin a new volunteer advocate training class Jan. 20. An orientation is set for 10 a.m. Dec. 29. CASA is a nonprofit organization that trains volunteers to provide support and advocacy for abused and neglected children in the Merced County foster care system.
